We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liang Zhang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liang below.
Liang, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Nature is my muse, dissecting the dance between nature and humanity through sculptures and installations. I challenge norms by juxtaposing organic forms with the rigidity of the grid, sparking dialogues on our intricate relationship with the natural world. I navigate the delicate balance between imposed order and the chaos of nature, transcending into the realm of ideas and emotions. Through immersive installations, I prompt viewers to reflect on their connection to contrasting elements. This exhibition invites engagement on visceral and intellectual levels, igniting conversations about the interdependence of organic and artificial facets. By exploring societal norms and our connection to nature, I aim to evoke emotions and initiate dialogues that resonate with the intricate contrasts shaping our lives.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Short answer: I’m an artist who uses clay and ceramic as the main medium to make contemporary art.
The driving force behind my artistic practice lies in the creation of sculptures and installations. These mediums allow me to channel my energy and creativity toward addressing pertinent issues concerning the strict regulations and the inherent softness of nature within our contemporary society. By juxtaposing organic forms with the rigidity of the grid system, I seek to challenge conventional perspectives and provoke dialogue surrounding our intricate relationship with the natural world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, the three qualities that stand out as most impactful are resilience, intuition, and self-trust. Resilience allowed me to weather challenges, learning and growing from setbacks. Intuition guided me when faced with tough decisions, helping me navigate uncharted territories. However, the bedrock was self-trust—it empowered me to embrace my instincts, believe in my capabilities, and forge a path authentic to my aspirations. For those starting their journey, my advice is simple yet profound: trust yourself. Cultivate a deep understanding of your strengths, listen to your inner voice, and have confidence in your unique journey. In the noisy landscape of advice and opinions, your self-trust will be the compass steering you toward meaningful achievements and a fulfilling path.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely, I’m actively seeking collaborations with home design companies to breathe life into my work within the intimate spaces of clients’ homes. The synergy between art and design is a powerful catalyst for creating immersive and meaningful experiences. If you’re a forward-thinking home design company passionate about incorporating unique artistic expressions into your projects, I’d love to collaborate. Let’s craft spaces that resonate with individuality and creativity. If this resonates with you, feel free to connect with me, and let’s embark on a journey to transform living spaces into vibrant canvases of artistic expression.
