We recently connected with Lisa Acebo and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I began dancing at a very young age and I believe strongly that it helped me develop my confidence and self esteem. I enjoyed dance and became very proficient at a young age. I was always placed in classes with others that were a good bit older than me, so I was constantly challenged. As a young dancer, I had to constantly prove that I belonged where I was and it forced me to believe in myself which in turn helped to build my confidence and self esteem. I was given opportunities to perform and share my talent which also helped to my confidence. I eventually opened my own dance studio which I ran successfully for 20 years.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a native of Tampa, Florida. I owned Rizing Starz Dance Academy for 20 years- a successful Tampa Bay dance studio. After semi-retiring, I decided that i wanted to try some commercial acting, so I enrolled in a class..I quickly realized that I very much enjoyed being in front of the camera. I had never even thought about becoming an actor until I turned 50 and I have been going full force with my training and being involved in as many projects I can ever since.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Focus Humility
Resilience
As with anything, one must focus on what the goal is and figure out to achieve it. That being said, it is also important to respect those around you who are more informed and knowledgable of how to help achieve the goal. Resiliency becomes important because we all must learn form our mistakes and continue to move forward towards the goal
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
As I continue to work on my craft of acting, I have to continually remind myself that this is a marathon not a sprint. I am learning that through my training and small projects, I am growing and always becoming better. I take my time on set and try to learn something new each and every time.
