We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Gerstenslager recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
This is a tough question for me because my work ethic does not come from one specific place or person, but from many people around me and the different experiences I’ve had in life. First and foremost I have to credit my mom for showing me what hard work and resilience looks like. She taught me to show up, be accountable, and do whatever it takes to get the job done. She also taught me to find something I love to do and call it work, which led me here today with my Body Sculpting business. I also have to credit my family who has been my biggest support system and motivation from the day I started my business. My work ethic is not just something that applies to my work, it applies to all aspects of my life. I apply this type of ethic to my being a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. At the end of the day I want to be able to reflect on my work and be proud of the things I have accomplished.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the owner of Body Sculpting by Lisa and I get to go to work everyday knowing I am helping both men and women feel confident in their bodies. Body sculpting is amazing because I am able to target those problem areas we can’t always fix with working out and maintaining a healthy diet. There are so many things that are special about what I do, but one of my favorite treatments is cupping therapy. Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese technique where suction cups are placed on the skin to draw out toxins and help with pain relief. The actual technique itself still blows my mind that suction cups can create so much pain relief, but it really is an amazing treatment and my clients love their results.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the most impactful areas of knowledge for me is to stay on top of new services/techniques. There are always new things developing in the body sculpting world so I have to continue researching and learning how I can improve my services. Another piece of knowledge that has been impactful is understanding how to communicate with my clients. I need to effectively advertise my services and understand how to promote, sell, and believe in everything I am doing. Lastly, I have to remind myself often that it is OK to fail. I always take risks because there is never any actual failure, only growing, learning, and improving. One piece of advice I would give to others would be to always ask questions and to listen, rather than talk. I learned so much from other people’s stories when I was in the starting phases of building my business. I asked questions about everything from which POS system is best to where I should begin when it comes to advertising.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who is ready to commit to the process. I love when my clients come in with a positive attitude and are ready to make the change to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The ideal client shows up to appointments, sets goals for themselves, and understands I am committed to helping them be the best version of themselves. Ultimately, we work as a team and my client’s success is my success.
