Meet Lisa Love

We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Love recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from the longing for a more unified way of living. It is a selfless act to help others in everyday circumstances and expect nothing in return. If each person on the planet did one simple act of kindness everyday it would change the world.

I have chosen to live my life this way. Be it a seemingly small gesture like a smile or a friendly hello, assisting an elderly person across the street, giving flowers to a complete stranger or picking up their dinner tab, or even something much bigger that would make a difference in their life.

Being kind and generous creates a patchwork of good deeds. This is how I express my humanity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an artist that designs works of art for the modern home. I specialize in ceramics, abstract paintings, and sculptural pieces.

With my ceramics, I create beautiful forms that stir the imagination. They come from a place deep within. The form offers function, if you choose to use it in that way. Elegance can be seen in the motion of the making and it is felt by those who are gifted the form.

Inspired by nature, a joyful light emanates from my large scale paintings. I enjoy the freedom and the flow of the acrylic paint as layers build upon layers, color over color. Things change and patterns shift on the raw canvas. I may choose to leave the painting as is or cut it into pieces, perhaps nearly destroying it, and reimagine it into another sculptural form.

For the fashion minded, I have transformed my paintings into a collection of handbags and accessories. They are truly one of a kind statement pieces. Currently these are being sold at the Museum Store in the Phoenix Art Museum and the Tucson Museum of Art.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Upon reflection, the most important areas on my journey have been discipline, evaluation, and patience. The desire to create change in ones life takes effort. Know that on your journey all things can be changed with time.

Discipline
It is not for the faint of heart for it does take some work to create change in one’s life.

Evaluation
Change takes honest evaluation of one’s thoughts to be precise.

Patience
Change comes with patience, patience in yourself and of the world around you.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“Write It Down, Make It Happen: Knowing What You Want – and Getting It” by author Henriette Anne Klauser, Ph.D.

I have read many books that have made an impact in my personal development. This book came to mind and was one of the first books I read after going through a divorce.

A few valuable nuggets of wisdom from the book are:

– If you know what you want you can have it
– Write down your goals or dreams and put a date on it
– Write as though it has already happened
– And remember there is no right or wrong way to do it

Journaling has been essential for me in my continued growth and development.
