We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liz August. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liz below.
Liz, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is kind of like a family heirloom. I watched my mom juggle a demanding job, organizing family gatherings, and still keep an impeccable home. Her parents and grandparents were the epitome of hard work, and that mindset trickled down to us all. My dad, too, started hustling early, and his dedication is a real inspiration.
We are always all about doing. Whether it was planning a big family party menu or rearranging the furniture for the umpteenth time, my family loves getting things done. It’s a trait that’s become a big part of my work at Simplify, Simplify. There’s a joy in untangling the messiest of tech challenges or streamlining a process, and I owe a big part of that to my family’s “let’s get it done” ethos.
So, when you ask about my work ethic, it’s not just about professional experiences but a blend of lessons learned by watching everyone in my family just roll up their sleeves and dive in.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Simplify, Simplify, we’re all about crafting simplicity in a world that often feels overwhelmingly complex.
Growing up in a family of doers, I learned the beauty of organization and the joy of bringing ideas to life. As the brains behind Simplify, Simplify, my focus is on streamlining the lives of fellow entrepreneurs. What makes Simplify, Simplify special is our commitment to simplicity without sacrificing efficiency.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
These are the three qualities that were most impactful in my own journey:
Gumption:
My journey has been flavored with a healthy dose of gumption, a quality my dad always said I possessed. Gumption is that unwavering courage to persist even when faced with challenges. It’s been a driving force in my entrepreneurial journey, and in my personal life.
Self-Taught Tech Wizardry:
At the ripe age of 10, my dad gifted me a computer, sparking a self-directed exploration into the world of technology. Through countless trials, errors, and endless Google searches, I honed my skills. This self-taught journey has been foundational, shaping my proficiency in the technological realm, allowing me to open a tech-oriented business.
Adaptability:
The landscape of entrepreneurship is ever-shifting, demanding adaptability. Flexibility in navigating changes, whether in technology, market trends, or business strategies, has proven crucial. Embracing change, learning from it, and swiftly adapting has been instrumental.
Here is my advice for those embarking on their entrepreneurial journey:
Embrace Gumption:
Cultivate that fearless spirit. Trust your instincts, take risks, and don’t shy away from the unknown. Gumption is your ally in overcoming challenges and pushing boundaries.
Dive into Self-Learning:
The ability to teach oneself is a powerful skill. In the dynamic world of business and technology, be a perpetual learner. We have so many ways to learn now, leverage online resources, communities, and hands-on experimentation. Your journey is a constant evolution; relish the process of self-improvement.
Nurture Adaptability:
Entrepreneurship is a dance with change. Develop a mindset that welcomes adaptation. View challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. The more flexible you are, the better equipped you’ll be to navigate the twists and turns of your journey.
Remember, your journey is unique. Embrace your individual strengths, be open to learning, and above all, enjoy the ride.
