Meet Lizzy Moffett

We recently connected with Lizzy Moffett and have shared our conversation below.

Lizzy , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I don’t think imposter syndrome is something you ever fully overcome—it’s more like a familiar tune that can pop into your head at any time, perhaps daily or even hourly. For me, this became especially noticeable when I shifted from a 15-year career in elementary education to web design. While I had experience building websites, stepping into the roles of business owner, setting prices, acquiring clients, and promoting my business were entirely new challenges.

To combat those feelings of doubt, I’ve found it invaluable to surround myself with a supportive community. Having people who understand the journey has been crucial. It gives me the confidence to explore, ask questions, and learn from my mistakes. And with each website I successfully launch, the internal chorus of doubt—my “itty bitty sh*tty committee”—gets a little quieter and easier to ignore. Their voices might never disappear completely, but they certainly lose their edge as I continue to grow and succeed in my new field.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I currently run a web design business, crafting websites that are not just visually appealing but also a breeze for my clients to use and update. I’m also certified in UX design through Google. This certification means I’m trained in making sites that are not just good-looking but are also intuitive and enjoyable for users to navigate. My clientele is wonderfully diverse, ranging from coaches and authors to artists, small business owners, charter schools, and nonprofits. Despite their different backgrounds, they all share a common need—a website that’s simple to manage and refresh. That’s where my expertise really shines, especially with tools like Webflow that make website management straightforward. You can effortlessly tweak content, update text, and post blogs, all without needing to dive deep into web design.
What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to help each client translate their unique ideas into a digital format that speaks to their audience and enhances their online presence. Plus, good UX design ensures that site visitors have a positive experience, finding what they need quickly and leaving with a great impression of your brand.
I’m currently expanding our offerings to include presentations and workshops to help business owners understand the essentials of online marketing and site maintenance. I find this to be a really fulfilling way to combine my two careers- teaching and empowering entrepreneurs.
If you’re looking for a website that lets you focus on what you love while leaving the digital heavy lifting to someone else, you’re in the right place. Let’s chat about how we can make your online presence a seamless blend of beauty, brains, and user-friendliness.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, both as an entrepreneur and in daily life, three core attributes have been pivotal: Curiosity, Intuition, and Autodidacticism. These qualities are not just skills but ways of engaging with the world that have propelled my growth and success. Curiosity has been my guiding light. It fuels my desire to explore new ideas, tools, and techniques which are essential in the ever-evolving field of web design. To anyone starting out, I recommend nurturing your curiosity actively. Subscribe to industry newsletters, join relevant forums, and don’t be afraid to experiment with new concepts. The more you question and explore, the more you’ll discover and grow.
Intuition has played a critical role in making swift and effective decisions. This goes beyond professional life into everyday decision-making. Trusting my gut when choosing which projects to take on or which design elements truly resonate with an audience has often led to my best work. Developing strong intuition comes from experience, from being in tune with your inner voice, and from learning to trust that voice. Reflect on your successes and missteps alike; each provides a crucial learning point that sharpens your intuitive abilities.
Autodidacticism, or the ability to teach yourself, has been fundamental. I vividly remember my grandmother’s words when I first learned to read: “Now that you can read, you can teach yourself how to do ANYTHING!” That moment profoundly impacted me. It taught me that with the right resources and a strong will, I could learn any skill or subject that piqued my interest. For those at the beginning of their path, embrace this self-driven approach. We’re so fortunate to live in the era of the internet and to have blogs, wikis, videos, books, tutorials, and courses on virtually anything. Identify your learning goals, find resources, and dedicate time each week to self-education. This ability to self-teach will empower you to adapt and thrive in any field.
In both daily life and as an entrepreneur, these attributes—curiosity, intuition, and autodidacticism—are invaluable. They enhance your ability to navigate the world, make informed decisions, and continually adapt to new challenges. They are not just skills but are essential components of a mindset that fosters lifelong learning and resilience.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely, collaboration is a cornerstone of my approach, especially as I navigate my entrepreneurial journey. About a year into running my own web design business, I realized that many other former teachers were experiencing similar shifts in identity and facing the same challenges as I was. We were all transitioning from one profession to another, grappling with new roles, and adapting to new mindsets.

Recognizing a common need for support, I founded a networking group specifically for Educators turned Entrepreneurs. This group serves as a supportive community where we share experiences, strategies, and encouragement as we navigate our new entrepreneurial paths. We meet virtually once a month, and the group is completely free to join.

If you’re a former educator embarking on a new entrepreneurial venture and are looking for a community that understands the unique challenges you face, I’d love for you to join us. We benefit greatly from each new perspective and your unique experiences could be incredibly valuable to the group.
