Meet Lord Vizion

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lord Vizion. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lord Vizion below.

Lord Vizion, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Other than faith, I believe your work ethic is the number one component, in my opinion, that leads to your success. Someone may be stronger than you, faster than you, rap better than you but if you work harder than anyone, you’ll always come out on top. My work ethic comes from not wanting to be a victim of my environment. I can’t remember a time in my life where we didn’t struggle so the only way I could get out of that cycle is to work harder than anyone else. Whether that means sleeping in the car to make sure you make it to an important studio session on time or shooting multiple music videos in one day to ensure that you have enough content for the month. In my eyes, that’s the fun part because if you truly love what you do, it’s not even working hard at that point. I love those 10 hour studio session days and because I write everything beforehand, I’m able to do 10-12 songs in a session. You can break those 10-12 songs down into appealing content and you’ll be able to stay in the eyes of the consumers for a long period of time. So to reiterate, my work ethic comes from me wanting to be someone and to make the people that care about me proud.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a rapper, a poet, and also an author. I guess you can say that I am an all-around creative. The music that I create is a depiction of my life, problems that I’ve faced & my experiences. My poetry is the foundation of my creativity & it allows me to tell a specific story without the boundaries that I face in music. I was introduced to music at a young age & I was always a fan of lyricism and storytelling. The most exciting thing about being a creative is the stories you can tell and the fact that you can witness how it translates and resonates with people of different backgrounds. I think that’s the beauty of music, seeing what translates and what doesn’t. My brand, Good People Still Exist, was created for individuals that thrive off of positivity and creating something the next generation can be proud about. Good People Still Exist is about leaving your ego at the door and making an impact that allows someone to potentially pay it forward. We all struggle with things seen and unseen so having a brand that caters to that is something I will cherish forever. I recently had success with my single “Black Women 2”. Tons of people showed love including Meagan Good, Hollywood producer Ava DuVernay, Myleik Teele, Gail Bean from Snowfall and thousands of other beautiful black women. The success of that single really gave me the confidence to keep growing, keep growing, and always remain humble. Everything happens for a reason on this journey.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important things I’ve gained on this journey is Patience, Faith, & Individuality. I started this journey of music in 2013 and what I did not have at the time was patience. I thought I was ready to be signed right out of the gate. I didn’t have patience with myself, with God, or with anything I had going on. I had no knowledge of the industry and the ins and outs of this business. The only thing I had was my skills in rapping but continuing this journey, I’ve learned that things take time. No matter how talented I thought I was, I needed to have patience with myself to figure out my sound, my niche, and my goals. 10 years later and I realized patience is one of the most important key elements you can have. Faith is another one. I grew up in the church and had a great understanding of why faith was so important. I’ve always had faith that things would get better for me. Even in moments of doubt and uncertainty, it never lasted long because I had faith that God would bring me out of these conditions and out of the environment I felt stuck in. I’m human of course and I have my days like everyone else but it’s because of faith that I’m still here talking to you guys. Everyone that is close to me knows how big I am on individuality. You have to be comfortable with being yourself! That’s the only people I like to hang out with. If you’re just now starting out on this music journey, if you don’t have anything else figured out, please be yourself! The last thing you want your audience to do is to believe you’re someone you’re not. Just be human and be honest. There’s a lot of people on this earth, find your village and your niche and you’ll be halfway there before you know it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes. I’m always looking to collaborate with different artists. I love collaborating because it allows me to enter the world of the other artist. It sharpens my pen as a writer and allows me to remain a student because I’m always trying to get better. I recently collaborated with Grammy nominated artist Gizzle on our song ‘Global’. During that studio session, I learned a lot about songwriting and just making better music as a whole. She taught me the importance of having a “topline” in a record, the importance of cadences, when the say something and when not to, etc. The session was incredible and I’m forever grateful for that. I think artists like Gizzle are the type of artists that I currently am interested in collaborating with. I love learning and growing so if I can learn something new and still be able to rap, I’m all for it.
