Meet Lu Wang

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lu Wang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lu, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

The issues of self-confidence and self-esteem stem from one’s mindset and how they perceive themselves. I understand myself well enough to recognize all my strengths and weaknesses. I don’t become overly confident because of my strengths, nor do I feel inferior because of my weaknesses. Therefore, I remain unaffected by the complexities of the environment and human nature in any situation. I enjoy contemplating, often asking myself, “Where do I need to adjust? Where can I improve?” I like to venture into new territories, as hesitation and self-doubt would only halt my progress. The direction of one’s thoughts is crucial; rather than dwelling on life’s shortcomings, I focus on the positive aspects that propel me forward. I dislike complaining and pay little attention to life’s negatives, so naturally, positivity surrounds me. A person’s destiny always depends on their own choices.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a strange yet not-so-strange person. I live by intuition, enjoying abstract and elusive things. I love playing in this world, endlessly battling and leveling up. I’m always seeking the deepest sensations, exploring the desires deep within me. I dislike words, labels, and I’ve never thought of myself as an “artist”. I’m simply someone endlessly experiencing myself and the universe. When I gaze at the stars, I don’t feel small; I feel like anything is possible. So, I keep living as myself, experiencing my evolution. Rules and trends are what I dislike the most; I don’t like being confined. True freedom lies in the freedom of the mind.
Dance is the most profound thing in this world for me. When I stand on stage, lights on and music playing, I feel like I’m in a dream. I love the sensation of losing myself, of only hearing my heartbeat and feeling my body on stage. I’ve never choreographed or danced for the audience; I dance for the person I want to be in that moment. I hope people can forget my appearance, forget my name, but remember the emotions connected with me. That’s what I want to convey to the world on stage—just emotions. I’m like a gentle breeze, fleeting and light, here one moment and gone the next.
I hope everyone can engage with art, viewing the world through an artistic lens. Because when you step outside the rules and navigate the world through feeling, you’ll discover more details and wonders in life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First and foremost is to break free from rules or to master them. As someone who walks alongside art, I find rules to be the most useless thing. Many say there are no perfect people in this world, that experiencing the bad brings forth the good, or that certain actions should be taken at certain times—these are all forms of rules. Don’t confine yourself to a box; stepping out of it will reveal many surprises. You need to think beyond, beyond rules. In this world, there’s not just 1, 2, 3; there’s infinite magnitude.

Secondly, it’s crucial to understand oneself thoroughly, knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses, constantly improving upon strengths infinitely. Most importantly, one must dare to acknowledge their shortcomings and inadequacies. Only through acceptance can change occur. You need to understand your inner self—what you truly desire, whether it’s what rules dictate or what you genuinely want. Search for your innermost authentic feelings.

Lastly, it’s essential to possess a strong inner core; inner richness is paramount to me. As time progresses, you may realize that wealth, status, or any external factors are inconsequential; what matters are your inner feelings and choices. With a strong inner core, courageously make decisions, effect change, bravely pursue what you desire. I never worry about what this world may bring, because to me, it’s not about rules; it’s merely an environment. So, I steadfastly make every choice, and in turn, I reap what I desire—profound experiences.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

The challenge I face now is myself. Or rather, I enjoy challenging myself. Challenging my limits, challenging my thoughts, challenging whether my inner self is strong enough. Interestingly, external circumstances rarely provide me with challenges. I am internally relaxed and laid-back, so external circumstances do not exert any pressure or motivation on me. Challenging myself is intriguing; in this process, I delve deeper into my inner self and discover a more authentic version of myself.
