Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luis M. Barbosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Luis, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I think my work ethic comes from the way I was raised. Back in Bogotá, Colombia I grew up learning to adapt to different situations under life adversities. From those experiences I developed a better understanding to what “reading the room” means, so I try to act upon and accordingly to the circumstance. Scanning your surroundings helps setting a base to your scenario. There’s always a time to say things as there’s also a time to keep quiet, to hold back. Listen to what people have to say, their body language. Be present, live in the moment.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Luis Barbosa. I’m a former musician and basketball enthusiast. Currently freelancing for the motion picture industry within the camera department as a technician, specialty camera operator and a focus puller.
I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some magicians, titans of the film and music industry. These mentors molded my understanding of what true story telling should be.
My years of production proficiency began in California, followed by Utah and currently in my home base Dallas Texas. I’ve had the privilege to improve my creativity working in all types of productions across the world. I love what I do and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my experience patience is number one, the second one is keeping a positive attitude and lastly stay humble. Don’t forget about your beginnings and your evolutions since.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
I have to emphasize this because it is such a fundamental part of it all, PATIENCE. Learning to master it has always been a challenge to me. We live in such a busy and chaotic world full of technological advancements and trends, it can get very suffocating. Everything we consume through all our senses can disturb our peace. It’s crucial to always take a step back, breathe and balance yourself. Always embracing patience.
Absolutely everything that comes to you, arrives at the appropriate time. It can only happen when it needs to happen, when you learned “the lesson”.
Learning to accept things as they come and to face it with the best attitude you can, is the best and toughest thing you can achieve. Yet, everyday is a new day to become a better self. So, there is time, just try to remind yourself about it.
