We recently connected with Lulwah Al Homoud and have shared our conversation below.
Lulwah , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethics from my upbringing and my religious beliefs. I think if your values and religion do t reflect on everything in your life, then your values and beliefs are shallow and useless.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an artist who produces work as a result of contemplating. I believe there’s so much to learn from throughout our live. I also believe that our life span is not enough to observe everything that interests us. My art overlaps science and spirituality. I’m inspired by astronomy, math, quantum physics and I do that through the abstraction of the written word. I take art seriously because I believe that it translates our values and communicates with different cultures and generations to tell who we really are.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Research comes first before anything we produce, it adds depth and quality to everything we do. I keep learning until the end of my time. I also like perfection and at the same time, I believe perfection doesn’t exist therefore, we must focus on the message behind the art and not exhaust our creativity by too much meticulous practices.
I’m a believer in education and for me art is a tool for that. When people ask questions about an artwork, they are learning something new.
I advise young artists to deepen their knowledge in what interests them, make their art as a reflection of who they are and stay humble.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I think we are created to complement each other. Nobody is exceptional at being excellent at all aspects in their lives. It is important to update your skills and learn new things but not exhaust yourself at being perfect. I worked with an engineer to do my biennial artwork in 2022 in Saudi Arabia.
