We were lucky to catch up with Lydia Knorr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lydia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I love this question because it feeds into so many other of the topics you have listed here…..
As a speaker, when I am delivering keynotes, I often speak on the topic of what it means to have a Silver Lining Mindset, which is essentially the same thing as being optimistic. This type of mindset is rooted in finding the good, finding the meaning and finding the lessons in our experiences. When we can do that, we cultivate all of those other things like wisdom, confidence, clarity and self-esteem which connects us more deeply to ourselves and to our purpose.
For myself, I have always believed that life happens FOR us rather than TO us which has allowed me to accept things with a sense of curiosity, openess and grace.
And Grace is Key.
Being able to look at any situation, no matter how difficult it may be and find the grace/gratitude within that situation, is to be living life with an open heart and when our hearts are open, we are able to receive that which is meant to help us grow more fully into ourselves and our purpose. I have always felt deeply connected to that truth.
I’ve navigated some pretty difficult life circumstances but I never lost sight of knowing that they were all a part of my intended path and that they were there to help me discover and step more fully into me and to the work I am meant to be sharing with the world.
I honestly feel pretty lucky that my Silver Lining Mindset is my default button. And that doesn’t mean that every moment of my life is sunshine and roses but I do believe at the core of my being that everything we experience is meant to help us grow more fully into the highest expression of ourselves so that we can be of service of others.
I think that is ultimately why we are all here.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
All things Health & Wellness are my Passion!
For over half of my life, I was in the business of helping people achieve health and wellness in my profession as a Registered Dietitian. I loved my work and I walked the talk. Nutrition and fitness were at the cornerstone of my personal health and well-being.
Two decades into my career, my life came to a screeching halt when I was widowed without warning and became the sole parent to three young daughters. That experience alone was enough to turn my life upside down, but add to it a cancer diagnosis, just eighteen months later.
My family, friends and fitness were critical to my healing and most days, I felt like I was making progress. But over time, as everyone got back to their own lives and I had to figure things out on my own,I started to turn to some unhealthy coping mechanisms…. and that was definitely NOT in alignment with who I was or wanted to be.
So, I decided to incorporate a more holistic approach to well-being that included body, mind and soul work. It was a journey into a new area of wellness and self-discovery and it’s where the magic happened.
The journey brought forward many moments of wisdom, growth, learning and awareness and connected me to something much bigger than myself, yet inherently within me – my Inner Spirit. It led me to align with my core values and step into the truest version of myself, which ultimately led to my purpose.
Today, through my keynote speaking and workshops, I inspire people to create personal agency for themselves by offering strategies to help them gain a sense of control over their lives, and have faith in their ability to handle a wide range of experiences and situations. I encourage them to discover and align with their truest selves so they can experience life in a confident, fulfilling and authentic way!
My greatest joy comes from being in service of others by making real connections that can create positive impact.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Qualities: Navigating unforeseen life circumstances is humbling at the very least and I think humility breeds compassion and empathy which fosters meaningful connections. I am truly grateful for each and every experience that has helped me to develop these qualities further.
Skills: Communication – both speaking and listening. Understanding what the pain points are of my audiences and knowing how to be relatable and authentic in my communications with them.
Areas of Knowledge: furthering my studies in the areas of grief, bereavement and personal growth have helped me to understand myself better and to extend a combination of my lived experiences and academic studies to relate more fully with my audiences.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate on wellness workshops, particularly for women and gain leads for speaking opportunities within the wellness , personal growth and/or bereavement sectors. I believe collectively we have greater impact than on our own.
