We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lynda Price. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lynda below.
Lynda, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Success is relative to your mindset, if you believe that you do not belong you won’t. You have to know that despite your own insecurities and battles with Imposter Syndrome that you are exactly where you need to be otherwise you would not have been invited. I have learned to accept that I am a work in progress forever growing and changing however, I have come to achieve what I have through hard work and faith and it is ok to celebrate those accomplishments.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Alabama, Georgia and telehealth in Florida. I am the owner of a private practice called Healing Transformations LLC located in Birmingham, Al. I provide individual and family counseling sessions to individuals seeking to change their current outlook or perspectives on issues that may need specialized attention in their lives. I also treat disorders such as anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders amongst other illnesses.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I feel the best qualities that I possessed in my start was resilience, perseverance and patience. The resilience comes in times when you have a set back and you intentionally decide that giving up is not an option and that you will keep going despite how hard the road may be. Perseverance comes in the face of adversity, there will be plenty of test and trials and you will have to stand and face it and think of creative ways of getting through without giving in. Patience comes in knowing that it may not come fast but in time it will come. Patience is required in order for you not to forfeit what you are building, impatience will cause you to get tired and give up prematurely before you have even had a chance to reap the benefits of your resilience and perseverance.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book that has played an important role in my development is “Boundaries” by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. I have learned that in life you have to set boundaries in every area of your life. When you do not set the proper boundaries you become overwhelmed and may start people pleasing. Boundaries also helped me to understand the importance of self care as well.
