We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lynn Brishae a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lynn, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from God and many prayers first. Second, where I currently am has a lot to do with where I come from. As a native New Yorker, I was born with a different kind of hustle and fire inside. If you know anything about New Yorkers, you know where all about getting things done by any means necessary., and as a child, I can always remember being driven and focused. I was always known for taking charge, being an organizer, and being the first to do many things.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In August 2018, attended the Womanaire Reciprocity Retreat created by fashion mogul, Milan from Milano Di Rouge. At the retreat I fell in love with the idea of owning my own business.
I struggled starting my business. No mentors, no help, no one to give me advice. After pushing through, I started to brainstorm ways to help other women who were new to entrepreneurship.
I wanted to provide solutions to the obstacles and struggles that we faced. I wanted to create a sisterhood of like-minded, supportive business women. That’s when my very first Women’s Business Retreat, Boss Summit ®️ was born. I wanted to tap into something much BIGGER than myself, and with Boss Summit ®️ I am doing just that.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were impactful in my journey are networking, collaboration and partnerships. Our impact set us apart. We truly provide the ultimate connection, sisterhood and network. This is how we stay in touch. Since we’ve started, Boss Summit®️ has birthed countless partnerships, collaborations, and connections between attendees and speakers. We’ve also seen women get hired by other women they’ve met at the Summit and we’ve even had the pleasure of seeing two attendees discover the were related.
My advice for folks who are in their early journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on networking, collaborations and partnerships is to “Get In The Room.” Attend these different conferences, retreats, summits and different networking events. Meet like-minded people such as yourself and develop a relationship. Think of ways to create a win-win situation for both parties involved.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
One of the biggest growth and improvement in the past 12 months has been the total renovation of a four unit 3,100 square foot commercial building that will serve as a Community Hub for our Boss Summit®️ business women.
The Community Hub seeks to advance the economic power of women, promote entrepreneurship, and build a legacy for the empowerment of under-served communities.
We will work to inspire, educate, and motivate women to become stakeholders in today’s economy.
