Meet Maedeh Samimi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maedeh Samimi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maedeh below.

Maedeh , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Acne is what’s made me who I am…

It was 2012 and my self-esteem was at its rock-bottom. I finally reached a point where I couldn’t leave the house without makeup on. EVER. I was completely chained to it – depressed, frustrated, and sometimes even hopeless because it seemed like no matter how many treatments or products I tried, nothing would work long-term.

I kept caking on makeup, but the more I did, the worse my breakouts got. I finally saw a dermatologist but even that experience left me feeling discouraged – the whole interaction seemed cold and very transaction-oriented.
She didn’t listen to my struggle. She didn’t tell me what could be causing my skin to break out the way it was. And she definitely didn’t create an action plan for me to follow, which left me feeling even more helpless.

As difficult as this period of my life was, I wouldn’t change a thing because it was this exact moment that catapulted me into the rewarding career I have now. If even a dermatologist wasn’t going to help me, I knew my only way forward was to learn about how the skin functions, find answers, and clear my acne on my own, I enrolled in an esthetic program, and while in school I received the “Best future esthetician” award in my class which is something I am proud of because I showed myself that I was determined.

We all know the information you learn in school is just the tip of the iceberg, and that there’s so much more to be discovered, therefore, once I graduated, I enrolled in as many continuing education courses and seminars as I could get my hands on. Now, 10,000+ hours of clinical experience later, not only I have cleared my own acne, but I get to help other women and boost their self-confidence.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I specialize in acne and age management, so the treatments that I offer in my clinic are to address acne, wrinkles, brown spots, rosacea, and more. But beyond that, my mission is to be an aesthetician friend to women. Because when I was struggling with acne, I didn’t have anyone to talk to, and it was a very lonely experience, therefore, I’ve made it my mission to change that.

Also, it’s important for me to work in tune with the latest research and developments in the aesthetic field, therefore I am launching a brand new cutting-edge technology later in July, which is FDA-cleared to treat 36 skin indications, such as acne, melasma, rosacea, unwanted hair removal, acne scars, skin rejuvenation, and more. It’s called the Neo Elite Laser by Aerolase.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
RELATABLE AND RESULTS-DRIVEN One of the qualities I possess as an aesthetician is that because of my own challenging acne journey, I can relate to the emotional distress that it can cause to one’s self-esteem.

CARING AND INTEGRITY
I am also an empath, therefore, I connect with my clients on a human to human level first before we talk business.

DETERMINATION FOR EXCELLENCE
I’m always in student mode to elevate my skills and to stay current with industry news and advancements.

My advice to someone who’s in the early stage of their career is that, always be open to learning, stay humble, and never give up. You don’t lose if you don’t quit!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book Atomic Habits by James Clear has been a game changer for me.

Here are 4 laws of creating a good habit:

The 1st law is to make it obvious.
The 2nd law is to make it attractive.
The 3rd law is to make it easy.
The 4th law is to make it satisfying.
