Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Magi Magick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Magi , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I am a big believer that our attitude in life has a strong influence over which way our life goes. In the past i noticed that when either myself or others had a negative attitude, it left no room for the possible better outcome in the future. Over time i have just learned literally anything is possible if can imagine it, so why not imagine the best possible outcomes for yourself. We are what we focus on.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Magi Magick, also known as The 14th Shooter. I am a Dallas-Fort Worth based photographer, director, fashion designer, and multidisciplinary artist.
As a multidisciplinary artist I do a lot of things now but I have been a photographer for about 7 years now. I love to shoot creative and experimental portrait photography. Over the recent years I have gotten into more video work. I work heavily with artists, to create cover art and music videos. As part of the Zebratail Studios team as one of their main photographers, I shoot behind the scenes and official movie posters for their films including our upcoming film “Recurrence” premiering February 7th, 2024. Also for the past year or so I have been creating unique one of one fashion pieces under my brand Vast Vision Studios, with most of the garments being upcycled and hand painted. VVS is aimed to create unique wearable art. This new year, I will be consistently releasing pieces for purchase every month at vastvision.net.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three qualities or skills that made the biggest impact on my journey are individuality, consistency, and versatility. It took me a while to embrace my individuality but once I did it really showed through my art since I was no longer pressuring myself to create art that looks like other people’s art. The next is consistency, people say this one a lot but for good reason. I’ve seen the most growth and evolution in my career when I am the most consistent in creating new works. Lastly I believe that my versatility with photography, fashion, and film is a discovery adventure. I say this because the more that I create with these mediums together I am always discovering new ways to combine them in cool and unique ways. My advice to folk earlier in their journey, just keep creating and building no matter what, its all going to pay off. Create work you love and encourage others to do the same. Artists vision is real so don’t let anyone deter you from manifesting what only you can see, embrace your vision.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth within the last 12 months I believe is my willingness to change and evolve, despite the fear of the unknowns and what ifs. Over the past year I have been blessed with opportunities to do things I’ve never done and push myself creatively. And just like photography I had to make some “bad” work before I found my style and started creating “great” work. For instance the first jacket I painted, looking back, is nothing compared to the stuff I’m making now. However, I’m glad I took that step to try something new because it led me to another art form I love. I had to be the first to believe in myself.
