Meet Makayla Miller

We recently connected with Makayla Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Makayla with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I think I get my work ethic from example and, honestly, anxiety. My parents are the hardest working people I know, and growing up I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices they had to make and rough times that came and went. But regardless of whatever obstacles they faced, we never went without in any way. I know I get my work ethic from them. I’m also anxious of the future because I know my future is ultimately up to me and the work that I put in. So I guess my past and my future are both my guiding forces

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a freelance photographer, but aside from that I am also a production assistant for WSB-TV. I hope to one day transition into working as an on-staff photographer for the station. I’m very thankful to have a career and a business doing what I love and enjoy. I am currently working on concept shoots for the month of June. I will be releasing concept photos for Men’s Mental Health Month and Pride Month, so I’m very excited about the execution of those.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were, ambition, drive and creativity. I think they all tie into each other as well. Being ambitious is what gets you going, it’s what makes you take that first step for whatever it is you desire. However, when things get rough, when you aren’t getting the consistent bookings, or you have hit a creative mental roadblock, you need that drive to push you to keep going. And through it all, get and stay creative. Always be willing to use what you have to get to the next level. You are your greatest asset.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I start to feel overwhelmed I allow myself to take a major step back. We are consumed by the idea that we have to always be on go, always posting, always working; which make burnout inevitable. No one runs your race better than you because it is your race to run. It is ok to take time off whether it be from social media or from the constant grind. Showing yourself grace is a priority.
