We were lucky to catch up with Marci Hopkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marci, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by overcoming my addiction and sharing my story, helping people going through a similar situation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The following are three vital elements that were essential for me and that I recommend for new entrepreneurs. Firstly, resilience is crucial for navigating the challenges and setbacks that come with starting a business. Embracing failures as learning opportunities and staying determined in the face of adversity are key to long-term success. Secondly, continuous learning is vital for staying ahead of the curve, adapting to industry changes, and fostering innovation. By remaining curious, seeking mentorship, and investing in ongoing education, I have been able to evolve and keep up. Entrepreneurs should constantly enhance their skills and knowledge. Lastly, mastering effective time management is essential for maximizing productivity and progress. Prioritizing tasks, setting goals, and utilizing tools for organization and delegation can help new entrepreneurs stay focused, organized, and efficient in building their businesses. An entrepreneur’s work is ongoing, but it’s important to create boundaries to spend time with family and friends. Making time for self-care is also essential to prevent burnout. Scheduling your time effectively allows you to balance all aspects of your life.
Growing up, my childhood was filled with turmoil and trauma. From anger and alcoholism in my home to physical and sexual abuse, I longed for a fairytale upbringing that was far from reality. As I navigated the challenges of my youth, I turned to alcohol as an escape, following in the footsteps of my alcoholic mother.
Despite the chaos of my past, I managed to find success in my career and start a family. However, the weight of my past and my dependence on alcohol continued to haunt me. Moving to different locations in search of happiness only masked the real issue – my own internal struggles.
It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom, with my children by my side, that I made the difficult decision to confront my alcoholism. Embracing a 12-step program and committing to sobriety was a turning point in my life. Through this journey, I discovered self-love, broke generational cycles, and found true joy in my relationships with my family.
Today, 8 years sober, I have dedicated myself to helping others on their own paths to healing and happiness. I wrote “Chaos to Clarity, Seeing the Signs and Breaking the Cycles” to help others on their journey to a better life. It was important for me to share my story, how I healed and the process I took so I could help others to know they are not alone and living a better life is attainable. I give, tips, resources and daily practices along with personal stories weaved throughout. My mission is to empower others to conquer life’s challenges, shift their mindsets, and live joyfully.
My journey of healing has not only transformed my own life but has also allowed me to be a better mother and role model for my children. I now live each day with gratitude, patience, and a deep sense of purpose, knowing that my past struggles have shaped me into the resilient, compassionate person I am today.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
There are 3 things that truly work for me.
Breathing Exercises:
Stop and take a deep breath in through the nose for 3 sec, hold for three seconds and breathe out through the mouth for 4 seconds.
I repeat this 4-6 times.
I meditate daily which helps with the nervous system, inner peace and focus.
I also stay in the day. If you think too far ahead, you are sure to get overwhelmed.
