Meet Marcus Marcelli

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcus Marcelli. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Marcus, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my purpose when I observed the gradual decline of the movie industry during my college years. As an actor, I was trained to deliver someone else’s lines convincingly, immersing myself in their emotions and beliefs. However, with each role I landed, I became increasingly aware of the pressing need for storytelling that transcends political agendas and conventional norms.

In my view, as we progress into an increasingly digitized future, there will be a heightened demand for authenticity. Movies should evolve into shared experiences, fostering connection rather than isolating individuals behind screens. Storytelling must adapt to serve the public, encouraging openness and deeper connections among people.

Consider the ancient era when humanity dwelled in caves; stories served as a cornerstone for communal bonding, sharing experiences, wisdom, and life itself, fostering a profound sense of belonging. Fast forward to the present, and we find a dearth of narratives that evoke such powerful connections. Instead, many narratives rely on adrenaline, dopamine rushes, and shock value, gravitating towards increasingly graphic content.

My mission is to give back to the public that deeper sense of belonging.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My most recent project has immersed me in a historical period drama centered around the Italian revolutionary Mameli, in which I portray the antagonist. The production presented significant physical challenges, particularly during intense battle sequences on horseback and intricate stage fights. Filming in July while clad in a uniform was undoubtedly demanding, yet the collective satisfaction upon witnessing the final outcome proved immensely gratifying.

Currently, I am involved in a new film production that holds a special place in my heart, as I have personally written its script. This project is an enthralling historical fantasy set in Long Beach, aboard the famous RMS Queen Mary.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My unique upbringing, influenced by an older generation deeply rooted in history, art, and classical languages like Latin and ancient Greek, has significantly shaped my artistic journey. This background expanded my artistic horizons not only within the film industry but across all forms of art. My advice to young filmmakers is to keenly observe beauty and art in all its manifestations.

Furthermore, I was fortunate to have exceptional mentors during my time in art school who imparted invaluable insights into the craft. Therefore, my second piece of advice would be to seek out and learn from experienced mentors who can guide and inspire your artistic growth.

Lastly, I would encourage aspiring filmmakers not to be discouraged by the inevitable rejections that come with this industry. Persistence in the face of setbacks is essential for success.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m currently in the process of developing some compelling new movie projects alongside esteemed directors like Peter Cornwell (renowned for “The Haunting in Connecticut”), Ken Heusey, Andrew Miller, and others. These projects are shaping up well and hold considerable potential for generating substantial revenue streams. However, I’m unable to divulge further details about the projects at this stage.
