Meet Mariah Edwards

We were lucky to catch up with Mariah Edwards recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mariah , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Developing my confidence and self-esteem was definitely challenging in this industry, being told they don’t like something definitely can knock you down! But that’s what’s needed to build your confidence and self-esteem, being told no or being told anything negative about your works builds your character. Because of those moments I was able to learn to navigate in any situation and fix the problem, leading me to top tier self confidence and self-esteem!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Mariah Edwards I am 30 years old, I am a self taught makeup and hair stylist! I knew since I was a child playing with doll heads and Bratz dolls that this one day was going to be my career. Once I graduated high school I went straight to cosmetology school, I studies at Paul Mitchell the school in Orlando Florida, once I finished school my journey started as a house mom in the adult entertainment industry. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s basically the mom of the strip club, I would have basic duties of hair and makeup and keeping the girls fresh and clean. I stayed in that for over 4 years and services 5 different clubs from the brevard county area to Orlando. After a long 4 year run I had my first son Jace my reason to hang up my brushes at the club and pursue hair and makeup in the bridal industry, during my time at the club I would service some occasional weddings but not to the standard I am today.

I’m currently an independent contractor working for myself and multiple bridal companies but my home base being Glam culture fl out of Melbourne, I’ve been with them for 10 years! Being in the bridal industry has taught me so much, bridal is truly my passion making brides and their bridal parties smile on the happiest day of their lives really is the motive! It feels good to make others feel beautiful. As we head into the next few months I am expecting my next child due in August of 2024, I plan to continue to service all of current brides till my maternity leave come late July or later as we don’t know what to expect within the coming months……planning to be back full swing in peak season of October to continue my independent contractor gigs and will remain with my home base glam culture.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back to my journey 3 skills I think truly impacted me would be…..

1. Being able to read the room and body language.

2. Being able to listen and take constructive criticism.

3. Be personable.

For those who are wanting to enter this career, be an open book! Take in as much knowledge and skills even when you feel it won’t benefit you. Being able to read body language will help you in many tough situations, being able to navigate it with a great personable attitude will be your bread and butter!

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client would be someone who is open to my years of experience of knowing what will look best for them, it’s so easy to want to look like someone off the internet, not realizing our features are completely different from theirs. A client who is willing to listen and accept my professionalism is ideal for sure !
