Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mariela De Santiago. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mariela, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Prior to creating and hosting the Mama Wears Athleisure podcast, I was a special education teacher. I feel that much of my job required optimism, especially if I wanted my students to exhibit optimism. Aside from that, I truly believe that you get what you put out, so might as well be positive. There can always be a bright side to the down, you just have to find it.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In late 2022, I launched my podcast called Mama Wears Athleisure designed to be a resource for new and expecting parents. After having had my son, I looked for a podcast that would give me answers to my many questions and save me time from sitting in front of a computer during my son’s naps. I needed that time to get stuff done or some rest.
After taking some time to search for the podcast I envisioned, I realized it didn’t exist. It was at that point that I decided to create it myself. I took a couple months to learn what I need to do to do launch my podcast and find the target audience. I realized that I was not the only new parents that wanted an informative and resourceful podcast.
As a one woman team, I do it all, so I like to set monthly goals. I’ve been able to add blog posts. I plan to share amazing parenting resources, businesses and other podcasts via Instagram Live and much more. Follow along, share and continue to support.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The top 3 qualities, skills and/or areas of knowledge that were most impactful for me were:
1) Time: I invested the time to search, learn and teach myself what I needed to know and purchase to start a podcast. This took a couple of months and practice.
2) Vulnerability: I had to be okay to put myself out there (on audio) and get comfortable with hearing my voice. That was not an easy task, but I’m over it. I also have to be comfortable with sharing my podcast with moms and potential listeners.
3) Editing: I had to learn to edit my podcast and use the editing software I had available to me. Although very time consuming, this was and is one of the most important parts to ensuring my podcast is well received and successful.
My biggest piece of advice is to write down what you need to learn to get to your goal, then watch videos, read articles, and practice. Eventually, it gets easier.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for individuals and businesses to collaborate with. Because my podcast is designed to be a resource and requires experts in different topics that relate to new and expecting moms, I am always looking for amazing guests and great topics.
As I begin to launch an Instagram Live series, this means I will also be looking for businesses to share with my followers.
The ideal person/business would be those that are wanting to support and educate new and expecting moms.
