Meet Marissa Rosa Roberts

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marissa Rosa Roberts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marissa Rosa below.

Hi Marissa Rosa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When it comes to finding my purpose, I think it’s an ongoing journey because of my constant growth. I absolutely set my goals and follow those dreams and ambitions, but I always keep an open mind to any new opportunity that enters into my life and that helps open different sides of me. More than anything, I strive to bring happiness and love into the lives of others and into myself. You really have to be patient with yourself on your journey in ‘finding your purpose’. Trust yourself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Marissa Rosa Roberts and I’m an Actress/Singer originally from the beautiful midwest. I started my career in Los Angeles about 9 years ago now and I think it will forever be the best decision I ever made. I knew I always wanted to be in the film and TV industry ever since I was a little kid. In front or behind the camera, or on stage singing my heart out, has always sparked something inside of me. So after college I had the opportunity of packing up and moving to LA, knowing little to no one, and starting this incredible journey. I of course started straight away doing background, and loved every minute! Opportunities come around when you truly enjoy what you’re doing. From there I have been fortunate to add to my resume tv, commercial, and film roles, as well as singing gigs at the amazing Vitello’s jazz nightclub in Studio City. Last year, I played the role of Detective Sarah Todd in the TV movie, ‘Secrets on Campus’, on Lifetime. I grew up watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies, so it was such a beautiful moment for me in taking me back to my childhood and sort of checking that box off.
As us actors know, it is a constant roller coaster when it comes to auditions, and bookings and finding work outside of acting that is flexible enough and pays enough to continue pursing this dream. But really sticking with it, using your experiences, and keeping that open mind to whatever new opportunity arises is what will help you stand out from the rest. Be true to yourself with every move you make.
Recently, I have opened the door to photography, which is something I have always loved and am still learning. I’ve had the incredible opportunity of shooting for WEAR by Erin Andrews and Michael Strahan Brand. Having been in front of the camera for modeling work myself, it has been such a fulfilling experience being behind the camera offering another outlet for my creativity. It brings me a lot of joy and I hope to continue learning and embracing whatever path it takes me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would have to say be your biggest hype person! You have to believe in your abilities and talent and gifts, day in and day out no matter what. Don’t let a “no” answer define you. You keep going, keep your head up and trust yourself. I wish I had had someone that reminded me of that when I was first starting out. I of course had the loving support of family and friends back home, but when I got here to LA, at the time, I felt so alone. And if there is one thing I can leave with anyone starting out is that you are not alone, there is an army of us out there wanting and willing to remind you of those things. As I said before, you keep your head up, believe in every part your being, power through and you will only flourish.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I would say, settling into this new version of me post-pandemic is something that challenges me everyday. I believe mental health is extremely important and was something I often overlooked. As we all experienced those few years of lockdown, it really made me sit looking into the person I was at that time and the direction I was heading. Although it was scary, it taught me how resilient of a person I am. Not only in those few years, but throughout my childhood. I think the pandemic forced me to reflect and make those changes, heal those generational traumas, believe in the woman I am today. Although it takes time, I feel these challenges are ones that will help me stay grounded and be the best version of myself.
