Meet Markeisha Samuel

We recently connected with Markeisha Samuel and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Markeisha , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
People usually develop resilience over time and intentionality by focusing on the four components of connection, wellness, healthy thinking, and meaning to overcome difficult and traumatic experiences. Unfortunately, this is a skill I had to develop at an early age. I experienced trauma as far back as being a newborn baby. I have three memories of being molested by people I trusted at an early age. I helped raise one of my baby brothers from age newborn up to 6yrs old and unfortunately had a domestic violence issue and was kicked out of my home at age of 13yrs over a lie. From there I have been on my own and had to grow up quickly to survive in this world. At the age of 19yrs I met my ex-husband who was very abusive. Looking back, I wonder if what I went through growing up played a part in me developing Lupus at around the age of 22yrs old. There is no way they can explain how a person develops Lupus, but I believe mine was stress related. After my divorce I was hurt, angry, and my mental state was unhealthy. I put my faith in God, meditated, grew to love myself, and what I needed to focus on to become a better person to get to where I wanted to be in life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Learning that I had Lupus, learning myself, self-love, and self-care I wanted to care for people who could use some TLC. Building strength and confidence I was able to founder Boss Babe Wig Cleaners LLC. It was a struggle due to a lot of my past trauma played a part of me being an introvert and still working on trust issues so networking and getting into the industry was not easy, but I had to change my outlook and get out of my comfort zone to build a legacy. I am proud of myself and how I have gotten my business to a successful point. Boss Babe Wig Cleaners LLC was founded around all but especially people who suffer from diseases and cancers that cause hair loss. Having Lupus, I understand the everyday struggles and wanted to give each client the care I wish I were able to receive when I was going through my worst days. Every service comes with a particular massage per service, we give back by donating a percentage of sales to a cancer/hair loss foundation every month and encourage people to love themselves no matter what they go through. Since we have opened, we have stepped up tremendously with high fashion makeup and styling, events, and special occasions. We are looking forward to changing the name of the business soon as well. Just make sure you follow us on all social media for all our accomplishments that are in the making.

In September we will be working in a salon in Arlington TX. and have a booth in Greenville, TX. We will also be starting our own custom/creative realistic wig line that will be starting by the end of year. After we build enough with our finances, we will be opening our own salon(s) by the end of 2024 (speak it into existence). Having Discoid Lupus causes skin issues and due to that we have online custom oils for hair, skin, makeup remover, and nails. We are a certified cosmetologist and can provide any services, do not hesitate to contact us if you would like TLC. It took a lot of resilience to get to this point and I would love to share the self-love self-care with you as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities/skills that most impacted in my journey are resilience, without it I would not know how to handle the difficulties that come with business. People consider themselves a failure in business when they do not see an immediate turnaround but it is said that a truly successful business does not become successful overnight but within 5yrs. Considering I just celebrated another anniversary August 1st and have been in business with a 5 star rating since 2020 which has been 3yrs exact: I am proud of who I have become and where my business is currently at. I have been working since the age of 13yrs and would consider myself a natural leader as a quality/skill. Starting in a management role at age 16yrs old taught me a lot about how to be a leader and appreciate the quality of each individual person’s work ethic. My last skill would be generosity due to seeing over the years how people treat people indifferently due to not understanding them or someone who wanted to be cared for or receive TLC and do not have the opportunity as the next to take advantage of that. I like to give back to those people, they do not realize how much they deserve self-love self-care.

How would you describe your ideal client?
Someone who deserves some attention. Someone who needs to be cared for and nurtured. Someone who appreciates self-love and self-care. Someone who has Alopecia, Hair loss disease, and/or cancer who would like a realistic unit that fits their head properly. Someone that appreciates a clean unit (wig) and does not have the time and/or energy. Someone who wants perfect makeup for any occasion. Someone who appreciates a cosmetologist that takes their time and learns what their clients need and want. Someone who appreciates their cosmetologist telling them what their hair, skin, and nails really need to stay healthy. Someone who is deserving of TLC. A true Boss Babe!
