Meet Marlize Joubert

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marlize Joubert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Marlize, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I walked into a classroom one day, meeting my mentor and breathwork teacher. Little did I know then, that this meeting would change the course of my life. Till then I have always believed there is something wrong with me. I am broken, or weird, or worth rejecting. I assumed I am wrong, and everyone else is right, judged from my limited ego view.

And on this day, I saw something being reflected back to me. He ‘saw’ me. And because he saw me, something inside began to shift. And as I continued showing up, month after month, and felt seen, in all my imperfections, and been seen as something extraordinary, someone with gifts and talents, I slowly but surely began believing it.

It gave me the courage to step up, to take up more space, to speak, to share, to teach, to be SEEN by others as well. As for the first time, I felt I too had something to be seen for, to share and to show.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I use breathwork as a tool to help clear any stuck emotion, experience or trauma from someone’s life. This after we have taken some time delving into the patterns that is keeping them stuck in that place. I love shining a light on a blindspot and liberate someone from an unconscious way of being that keeps them stuck, and in effect bring resolution and forward movement. I see patterns. And I see a way out and a way forward.

Once we bring the unconscious into the consciousness we can move through it and create new and healthier patterns.

Life is all about growth and transformation. Once we can see why we keep creating the same pattern over and over again, we can move beyond it. Not only can we understand and see it, we can also clear the energetic holding out of the body for good. It is effective and powerful.

Seeing someone transforms in front of me, leave me transformed. I rarely would have someone show up that is not a mirror for me in some way. It makes it so much more fun. We elevate together. When we see ourselves in others, with compassion we both heal.

I teach breathwork classes weekly in person and virtual.
Unplug Meditation in LA

I host one-on-one healing sessions in person and virtually.

I lead transformative breathwork trainings (currently 3x modules) in person and virtually.

I host private events all over Los Angeles.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
To have an ability to hold a container where someone feels safe. Safe to open, to communicate, to share, to be, to feel. This is how one heal. We heal when someone is ‘holding’ us from a place of compassion. Not judging, running, detaching, giving advice, needing validation in the advice given. Just being a witness of the most vulnerable part in someone, from the heart.

I am a great listener. I hear everything. Even the things that are not spoken. Someone feel heard and understood and validated in their experience.

I am authentic and open. I share some of my life experience, vaguely (not making the session about myself), yet a lil so that I am relatable, trustworthy, not in my ego, rather so real, imperfect and honest in who I am and what I can offer.

Advice
It is OK to not know everything. It is OK to say you don’t know if you don’t know everything. Don’t promise something you can’t deliver. You don’t need to be healed and perfect to be a facilitator.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I have worked by myself for a long while. I love the idea of bringing more wonderfully skilled, yet complimentary teachers together to make the world a better place.
