Meet mary keel

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mary Keel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mary below.

Mary, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Know who you are , the value you bring to the table. If you know your craft then you will be fine.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
A fitness professional with several areas of expertise including core training, Pilates, weight training and Flexibility AND Mobility. Currently working as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and corrective exercise specialist. MY objective is to help people achieve their ultimate health and fitness goals by meeting people where they are. Ive been a fitness coach for over 9 years and loves helping others to discover their greatness within. One of my missions is to decrease the generational disparity found in health and fitness. While working to increase inclusivity & diversity in wellness spaces. First beginning my career as a group fitness then personal training specialist I wanted to help clients live and not just exist. By coaching them on exercise and healthy meal choices, which brings about dignity and pride. Helping them take control over their choices and not be subject to traditions and unhealthy learn patterns regarding their health. Most recently I became an assisted stretch therapist, which allows me to assist client with increasing flexibility and mobility. Our method of stretching allows clients to increase blood flow, decrease back pain and relieve stress just to name a few. What is most exciting about what I do is the happy expressions I get after someone is stretched. They feel a good feeling of something but most can’t explain what is the feeling. After being stretched you feel lighter, you can feel your blood flowing, they are happy to see the difference from when they first walked in. Often times we are so use to feeling tight in our bodies and accept the pain and discomfort we don’t realize how good we are suppose to feel , stretching does this.

We are a woman black own minority company who focuses on stretching, inflammation, we also provide personal private training. In additional we have also have a corporate partnership with our city school system specifically providing health and wellness service to public school workers such as teachers, admin and staff. We have just added our customize grips sock to be worn while stretching for stability, each sock is hand made and can be partnered with a customized water bottle. We recently expanded to our 1st brick and mortar moving from my basement we did this because our clientel began to grow and we wanted to be visible to a greater diversity of clients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think resiliency , focus, and believe in yourself. I did a lot of research and practice to become most proficient in the area I desired to go in. The thing I would say its not by far easy but doable surround yourself with others who genuinely want to see you win and do better. As well as those who are smarter than you. Never forgot why you started this helps with you take you out the equation.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The specific challenge is that we are in need of financing and capital. While we are growing, we still are in need of capital to hire qualified staff and working capital. We have a great vision and seeking to expand.
