We were lucky to catch up with Mary Trice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My self esteem was extremely low because I was always told I was not able to succeed. Growing up I always felt like I was living in a dream well more like a nightmare at times. I always knew I had to work harder than anyone. As I got older I realized I am chosen from God to be an example to others like myself. As I helped others and be kind my confidence grew. I tell myself daily God is good God is love. I am worthy and capable of achieving my goals and dreams. I am a strong, resilient and determined individual. I am loved and valued by those around me. I am learning and growing every day. I am capable of overcoming any challenge that comes my way. I am confident in my abilities and I will continue to work hard to reach my full potential. I am proud of who I am and I will continue to strive for greatness. I am worthy of success and happiness. My past does not define me, it only makes me stronger. I am grateful for all that I have and I will continue to be grateful for the blessings in my life. I am enough and I will continue to believe in myself.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the founder of The Mary Trice Foundation Inc. I started the foundation January 2022. I always had the heart to help foster youth because I was a foster child. Growing up I was always counted out and I always felt unloved. Moving around to different foster homes has shaped me to be a very driven woman. Right now many older foster children in Raleigh NC are staying at the Wake County Social Services office because there is not enough foster parents.
June 1, 2024 at 3pm The foundation is having A Candyland music festival at Dorothea Dix park. We are collecting materials such as socks, books, toiletries , pillows, sheets, toys, clothes etc. to help the foster children staying at the Wake County Social Services office.
I am grateful for everyone who has donated clothes, toys, and money to help the foster children in nee in the past. Every little bit makes a difference in a child’s life.
I hope that through our foundation, we can bring awareness to the need for more foster parents and support for foster children. Our goal is to provide a sense of stability and love to these children who have been through so much.
I believe that every child deserves a chance at a happy and fulfilling life, and it is our responsibility to help make that happen. With the ongoing support of our community, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of foster children.
I am proud of what we have accomplished so far, and I am excited for what the future holds for The Mary Trice Foster Care Foundation Inc. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of foster children and create a brighter tomorrow for them.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Driven I am extremely driven when it comes to achieving my goals and aspirations. I have a strong desire to succeed and push myself to work hard and reach my full potential. Whether it’s in my career, or any other aspect of my life, I never settle for average and always strive to do my best.
Determined
Along with being driven, I am also very determined. Once I set my mind on something, I don’t give up until I achieve it. I am not afraid of failure and I see setbacks as opportunities to learn and improve. My determination has helped me overcome obstacles and challenges, and has led me to achieve things I never thought possible.
Positive
I believe that having a positive attitude and outlook on life is crucial for success. I always try to see the good in every situation and approach challenges with a positive mindset. This not only helps me stay motivated, but also inspires those around me. My positive energy and attitude has allowed me to overcome difficult situations and achieve my goals.
Overall, these qualities have helped me navigate through life’s ups and downs and have made me the resilient, determined, and positive individual I am today. They have also enabled me to be a role model for other foster care children and show them that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and a positive mindset.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest growth in the last 12 months is me being able to prioritize my own well-being and take care of myself first before taking care of others. This includes practicing self-care, setting boundaries, and saying no when necessary. By doing so, I am able to show up as my best self for others and be more present in my relationships.
Another key growth area for me has been learning to trust the process and let go of control. I used to be a perfectionist and always wanted things to go exactly as planned. But life doesn’t always work that way, and trying to control everything only caused me unnecessary stress and anxiety. By surrendering and trusting that everything will work out in its own time, I have been able to let go of a lot of worries and be more present in the moment.
Finally, I have learned the importance of gratitude and counting my blessings. In the midst of challenges and setbacks, it can be easy to focus on the negative aspects of life. However, taking time to reflect on all the good things in my life has helped me to maintain a positive mindset and appreciate the present moment.
In summary, the biggest growth I have had in the last 12 months has been learning to let go of negative energy and prioritize my own well-being, trusting the process and letting go of control, and practicing gratitude for all the blessings in my life.
