We were lucky to catch up with Maurice F. Martin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maurice F., so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
There’s a lingering memory that I just can’t shake. Envision a beautiful summer evening, and there I am, standing on a stage, holding a microphone. The night sky, adorned with lights, and a multitude of people in front of me—none of it unfolded as I had imagined.
These moments were intended to evoke a sense of accomplishment, pride, and fulfillment. Yet, on that stage, bathed in lights, I felt lost, alone, and like a total fraud, grappling with the overwhelming presence of imposter syndrome and wrestling with my sense of self.
Perhaps you, as readers, can resonate with this experience.
Many of us have found ourselves in the position where we’re instructed to “fake it till you make it.” How many of you have been there during your journey, only to arrive at your destination and realize you still feel as much of an imposter as you did at the start?
Over the past 8 years, my focus has shifted from “fake it till you make it” to embracing the mantra “believe it till you achieve it.” It’s a principle I consistently convey to my clients: believing in your power, even before the world catches on. There’s a profound reason something greater than us placed greatness within. We must embrace it and walk in it! Just a mustard seed of faith can move mountains.
My focus has transitioned from grappling with imposter syndrome on that festival stage to standing on stages and in rooms, inspiring individuals to find the courage to step into the fullness of their purpose. It’s not solely about overcoming imposter syndrome; it’s about us rewriting the script on the inside, one story at a time.
Imposter syndrome is more than a concept—it’s a journey, a transformation, a story of overcoming imposter syndrome and belief triumphing over doubt. So, what is imposter syndrome? It’s a challenge, yet also an opportunity to discover and embrace your authentic self, affirming that the greatness you believe in is the truth within you. Whether overcoming imposter syndrome in the workplace, finding courage to embrace your purpose, or navigating imposter feelings, the journey involves rewriting the script and discovering the courage to step into your authentic self.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As I look back on my journey, a couple of key things have truly made a difference. First and foremost is my faith, which has been the driving force in my life. Living with a clear sense of purpose has given me the resilience and determination to keep going even when things get tough.
I see my family, businesses, and every interaction as opportunities entrusted to me by a higher power, and every day, I ask myself, ‘Am I living in purpose on purpose today?’ This helps me approach each day with focus and intention, especially during challenging times.
The second major quality is continuous learning. I always say I’m not a finished product, and that’s okay. Keeping a mindset of constant growth has been crucial. Instead of seeing obstacles, I view them as chances to learn and grow.
This brings me to the third quality: resilience. As Dawn Staley said, ‘You have to learn how to handle hard better.’ Tough times shouldn’t be avoided; they should be embraced. I’ve learned to lean into difficult moments, stay present, and learn from them.
So, faith, purpose-driven living, continuous learning, and resilience are the cornerstones of my journey and principles I encourage others to embrace on their paths.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
When people ask about my ideal client, I usually chuckle and say, ‘Another version of who I used to be.’ One of my favorite sayings is that ‘God has a way of putting you in front of you.’ In other words, I believe I’m here to help individuals who resemble the person I was over a decade ago, standing on that stage, feeling stuck, lost, and reeling from imposter syndrome.
My ideal customer is a leader. We know there are many different types of leaders in life – those who take care of and serve others in business, family, or ministry. You’ve experienced moments of professional excellence but have struggled personally. Aren’t you sick of being stuck? If you are, then I’m called to help you. We work to create environments that are safe enough for you to keep it real about your challenges and grow past them. My ideal customer wants to find the courage to face what is holding them back so that they can walk into the confident, free, purpose-driven life they have been hoping or praying for.
