We recently connected with Mauricio Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Mauricio, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
It all started when I began to really observe the world and wanted to share my vision with others. Some people will walk following a line without realizing what’s happening around them, distracted by the busy environment we live in. I believe that my purpose in life has always been to connect with life and share my perspective through images of stories I find hidden in my journey. There’s a story hidden behind every person, landscape, and living and non-living thing on this planet. I find my purpose in the interactions I have daily, the stories I want to tell, the people I meet, and the experiences that make me feel alive.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a commercial photographer and artist based in San Diego, California dedicated to photographing people and products, but with the ability to capture whatever catches my lens. I have developed various skills in different areas such as design, film, and photography in order to expand the tools I have to create. Everyday is exciting because you get to work on a different project, with different people, in a different setting. It’s always going to be something exciting yet challenging at the same time. This career has also given me the opportunity to meet and work with great people that have shared their knowledge and impacted my work tremendously and for that I’m always going to be grateful for.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Pay attention. There’s always something happening. 2. Be adaptable. Sometimes things don’t always go your way. The best thing is to be able to adapt and find a better way to get things done.
3. Be humble. Be be kind. Be grateful.
My advice for people who are just beginning their journey will be to learn the rules and then learn when to break them. Be rebels and look for different ways to express, create and have fun in the process.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Every person I have crossed paths with has helped me develop myself and my skills in different ways. I will always be grateful for the people who have been there to teach me, help me, and support me throughout my life. They are one of the many reasons I keep pushing and showing up.
