Meet Maya Fiasco

We recently connected with Maya Fiasco and have shared our conversation below.

Maya, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
It must be said from the beginning, as the foundation of my personality – I am the youngest of three and the only girl; I’ve never lacked confidence. (totally kidding) I went through a very ugly duckling phase from middle school to high school, that season truly crafted my dazzling personality (lol). I was never the pretty friend, but I was the funny friend or the talented friend- I developed my confidence through my skills. I grew up a theatre arts kid, the stage never said I wasn’t pretty enough, it only cared if I shined. I think self-esteem for me is linked to self-awareness. I never wanted to be anything but myself. Sure, I wanted to be skinny or have different hair or whatever naive vanity captures your attention for a moment but at my core, I always liked myself. That awareness allowed me to be myself and be ok with myself in every season. Eventually I’d come to curate an aesthetic that matched my energy but if we’re being honest that’s just about financing the look. Every girl knows it costs to be the boss.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the brand, the brand is me- okay! I am, Maya Fiasco, personality extraordinaire and hostess with mostest. I attended The Tennessee State during a peak culture of seminars and panel discussions; as such my first platform behind the mic was as an academic, debating Malcolm vs Martin or opening for the Honorable Minister Farrakhan. I found the fun in public speaking hosting live events like coronations, pageants and parties. Blending the two, I now host 2 successful podcast and YouTube series, “Behind the Sounds” and “___& wine” with Mayree. BTS is an intimate interview with music artists and a showcase. “__& Wine” is a lifestyle podcast featuring Mayree and myself with various guests and topics, always of course with wine!
My focus now is on growing both brands, reaching new local partnerships and artists. It’s important to me to always be spreading useful and tangible knowledge for life application, be it mental health or politics I don’t shy from a topic or taboo as an opportunity to learn and grow with my audience.
And saving the best for last, still in the kitchen cooking but stay tuned for the relaunch of “The Lounge wit Maya Fiasco”!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ll tell you 3 things I try to live by or practice 1. In the times of adversity or in the face of nay sayers – let it go. Grudges, burdens and animosity will drag you down.
2. Get a skin care routine: your face card is your best card
3. Tell yourself out loud with true conviction, “i love you”. Give yourself the best of you, be kinder and speak life over yourself.
Releasing things that no longer serves you allows you to soar, the weight of the world is crushing enough- let it go. Fall deeply in love with yourself, so much so that you care deeply about your representation and image. The minutes you spend in a skincare routine are beyond beauty, it’s a moment to actively nurture yourself. Being in front of the camera leaves you subject to everyone’s opinions and interpretation, set a solid foundation of self love- it will serve you well. I hope you love you better.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. This book was a real tool to reshape your thinking. My greatest takeaways are in identifying the ego and stop waiting. I won’t give you anything further because the gift of enlightenment is a solo journey. Godspeed.
