Meet Maya Thomas

We recently connected with Maya Thomas and have shared our conversation below.

Maya, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by trusting in myself and my ability to overcome any challenges life throws my way. Confidence comes from failure itself, as soon as I learned this I was then able to see my mistakes as a learning curve especially creatively. When you want to achieve something self doubt can be crippling but, to overcome this battle you have to rely on your skill and willingness to grow to become more confident and grow your self-esteem.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Maya Thomas and my artist brand is ArtXMessiah. My mediums are acrylic&oil paintings, art directing , makeup artistry, and sculpting. I am multifaceted when it comes to art and my artistic abilities and I frequently try to pursue new mediums to work with every day. My art represents the balance of life, the Ying and Yang effect. Being a woman in todays world has its hardships but, being a woman of color comes with its own set of challenges. My art represents the beauty with ugliness, pain with love , and fear with joy of life. You can not have one without the other and embracing all of these elements can create a liberating life. My goal is to exhibit my beautiful pieces of art this year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that helped me grow in the journey were to be Impactful , Intentional , and the ability to persevere through hardships. These three things helped me be able to be perceived by my peers. As an artist the art is not the biggest challenge it is the issue of direction and your own ability to stand by your artistry. With those three skill sets you will become unwavering and proud of your message to the world.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
My current challenge is breaking the ceiling. I feel myself there but not yet. I have been working towards this goal for awhile now and some times the challenges of artist block comes along. But I have been able to work through that so far this year and I am anticipating my next milestone.
