We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meechh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meechh below.
Meechh, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimistic spirit stems from how I was raised as a child. My family taught me that no matter what cards you were dealt you have to keep pushing. I am who I am today, Thanks to my Dad’s calmness and my Mom’s encouraging words in the most chaotic of environments. Being a photographer, I believe optimism is a key trait to posses when dealing with conflicts from your clients and even your own personal struggles.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My journey began in 2009 when I started working at my Church filming services. Around this time, I didn’t own a camera personally, but I knew I liked to capture timeless moments. Outside of working for the church, I would use my friends camera to film anything from dance videos to skits. I created content merely for fun & the love of the craft.
My journey as a photographer didn’t begin until late 2013. As I approached college, my Dad gifted me with my first Full-Frame Camera and a laptop. From that moment on, I would slowly take photography more serious. I would utilize my friends and the people around me to capture any and everything I could. It wasn’t until my Senior year that I decided to begin charging clients and treat my craft like a business.
Fast-forward to today, I’ve been operating my business for 5 years now. Given my background in communications & marketing, my current audience is more targeted towards personal & commercial brand owners. This is a complete shift from the past when I use to capture anything you could name. My passion of helping others reach their goals and capture timeless memories has positioned me to become a brand photographer.
The future for “Shot By Meechh” looks like new merchandise, digital products, more events and better experiences for clients. I can’t say too. much but I will also be in front of there camera a lot more. Im excited for everyone to see what’s next and I look forward to continue expanding business an all aspects, because this is “Bigger Than Me.”
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think my ability to network was crucial to create new opportunities and change my mindset. Next, I believe time-management skills were very vital as well. Meeting deadlines and being the first has also created many opportunities for me. Thirdly, my ability to adapt has truly helped me continue to survive in this industry.
If you’re new to this industry and looking to grow, I advise you focus on networking. Im a people’s-person so I’ve always thrived at networking. However, sometimes I can be very shy, using my camera has gave me an excuse to network when I probably wouldn’t have if i didn’t have one. Next, I advise all beginners to find a mentor to help guide you in the right direction. Lastly, shoot as much as you can to improve your skills and help you learn what you like and what you don’t.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m mainly looking to collaborate with those who have a personal or commercial brand. I’m ready to work, If our visions align with each other. I’m always looking to help others scale their brand whether it’s simply creating their brand image or creating a spec ad to pitch to another brand for partnerships.
