Meet Megan Gonzalez

We were lucky to catch up with Megan Gonzalez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Megan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what my purpose was. I was lost on what I wanted to do and what I had a passion for. The time in my life where I experienced bad acne and seeing how it changed my life, how depressed it made me and how it made me feel. I knew I needed to turn my pain into purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I always had this vision that I wanted to bring to life. I was really interested in the beauty industry growing up. I was your typical girly girl, always getting my hair done, playing around in make-up. Shortly after I turned 24, I experienced very bad acne. It was so bad I was calling off of work, didn’t wanna be seen in public and it made me depressed. I lost all self-esteem. It was embarrassing. After multiple appointments to the dermatologist, trying all these different types of acne medications, nothing seemed to be working so I took it upon myself to research about the skin, acne, and different home remedies to help with acne. I became obsessed. From there I knew I wanted to become an Esthetician and come out with a skincare line to help others who were dealing with what I went through. I got into the program and obtain my license right away in 2019. I became an acne specialist and laser technician, working in the field for 4.5 years to build my clientele and learn everything I know now. In 2023, it was time to become my own boss and get my own spot where I can take my clients and provide my services. I worked my butt off and saved until I reached my goal to get my suite. Being able to get my own spot, decorate how I want and make my own schedule is a blessing and a great feeling. I am very passionate about what I do, I love what I do and I am very knowledgeable about what I do, I decided to take the next step and get into the educator program so I can obtain my license to teach. I got into the educator program September 2022 but had to drop out because I didn’t have enough confidence. The work load was too much and I couldn’t handle it. It wasn’t the right time. I was devastated. Fast forward to June 2023, I wanted to go back to school to finish what I started. I ended up getting a full ride scholarship for the educator program at David Pressley. Graduating September 2023 was such an accomplishment. Right now, I am focused on teaching at a beauty school for the next year to get the experience, offer apprenticeships and hold classes for newly esthetician, teaching them what they need to know for the real world and offer refresher classes. My ultimate goal is to get FaceIt skincare in stores and opening up my own beauty school in the years to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
3 most important skills you need to be a successful Esthetician:

1. General customer service skills
2. Attention to detail
3. Creativity

There are many skills you’ll learn as you go through the esthetician training course but there are also some skills you have inside you that may be just as important. You can develop these skills by completing esthetics training, maintain a positive attitude, work in the field and maintain current industry knowledge. Focus on those 3 skills during your journey and career and they will help you and get you far.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Being a business owner of 2 years, I realized you can’t do everything alone. Having a partner or a team behind you is important and benificial. Since I am planning to open up my own beauty school, I would love to partner with someone with a similar vision or someone who is interesting in becoming apart of the plan. whether that’s dropping ideas, investing etc. I have a lot of potential and very ambitious. I would love to work together! I can be reached via email faceitskincareline@gmail.com
