Meet Melessa Sargent

We were lucky to catch up with Melessa Sargent recently and have shared our conversation below.

Melessa, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’ve always been in the entertainment industry since I was young starting as a dancer in Tap, Ballet and Jazz then moving into modeling, acting and singing. My family always found a way of giving back ever since I can remember. My Mom taught me there are many ways to help and you should find a way to be happy while you are helping someone else or find what makes you happy and see how you can help others.

Combining my love for helping others and working in the entertainment industry is where I found my passion and my purpose. I truly enjoy helping to connect people with someone that can possibly help them further their dreams.

Scriptwriters Network and everything we do, allows me to fulfill my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As President of Scriptwriters Network, I have the joy of running this Non-Profit whose mission is to assist writers become better writers.

We teach the art, business and craft of script writing for TV, features and new media and also by brining in those in the industry to talk about writing and what’s going on. Scriptwriters Network has script submission Programs in which we run each year. We teach Readers how to read scripts for our Programs as well as others, it’s our Script Analysis Readers Class, where we analyze scripts.

We are excited to mention that our first LIVE Networking Event is on March 8th, it will be the first time we are having an in-person event in three years. We provide information on our website for so many additional details that one can view. Additionally, we have a membership section where you can view past videos, audios and write-ups of past events. There are also special items provide from our past Speakers and more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, organization was and is one of my top qualities and skills. I am an organizer and that helped my journey with Scriptwriters Network as I started in this organization as a door volunteer. My organizational skills and working within this Non-Profit helped me to move up into my current position. Listening to others and what they have to say is one of the qualities I ask everyone to use especially in our Networking event.

My advice to everyone starting in this industry is to be patience and listen to what others, who are in the industry and further along, have to say as they may know some things that might get you further along on your journey.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are always looking for partners and Sponsors for our events and organization. Those that understand what we do and would like to work with us, follow us and support us. As a Non-Profit, we have a page on our website with more detailed information with regards to cross promotions as well. We are willing to work with those organizations that will support us on their website and social media feeds. Additionally, we are always looking for donations to assist us in continuing our mission.

Information on our partners, Sponsors, donations and everything can be found on our website at www.scriptwritersnetwork.com. For questions or more information, contact us at info@scriptwritersnetwork.org.
