We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Pava . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Hi Mia , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
When I was four years old my family immigrated to a new country, we left our family, friends, our home and embarked on a new journey. Though I was very young I remember not wanted to let go, and leave. Looking back I view this experience as a gift. Not only did this teach me that I am able to take risks and jump into the unknown, but more importantly that my identity does not depend on where I live or where I came from. I can thrive, rebuild, discover and be curious about things around me, and continue to learn and grow with the understanding that wherever I choose to be is the place that I belong.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own a Bridal boutique, we design and create all of our gowns in house. Starting from the inspiration, sketching, pattern making all the way to the sewing. We also design many of our laces and embroider them by hand or have them manufactured in India. One of my favorite things about studio life is meeting our brides, getting to know them and their stories, understanding their hopes and dreams and creating a gown that encapsulates just that. Each bride is unique and I feel lucky to be apart of their big day.
Our gowns are made to fit each bride, and her specific needs whether it be modest requests or adjusting a design to be more suited to her event. I try to have fun in the fittings too and hold a space for my brides with whatever they are going through.
we specialize in gowns that are fashionable yet comfortable, I believe every bride should be able to do a cartwheel at her wedding, if that’s what she desires ❤️
I have four kids, who love visiting me at the studio and I love that they get to see their mama doing what she loves. I have fond memories of visiting my father at his office, and feeling so proud as if I was VIP.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think that for me being optimistic and having faith that at the end everything will work out for the best has been very impactful in every step of my journey . It keeps me focused yet gives me leeway to be open to surprises that might come along. I am also a hard worker. Whatever I do I put my heart and soul into it, and I get a lot of satisfaction from that.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I guess it’s a balance, it’s a gift to know what our strengths are, and a gift to be aware of our weaknesses, not to avoid them but to know and explore them, to understand where they come from. Am I avoiding something just because of an idea I carry with me about myself from childhood? Perhaps it’s not my reality, perhaps I can free myself from limiting beliefs. I don’t think everyone needs to excel in everything but I don’t think we need to miss out on experiences or potential growth opportunities because we think it is off the bat “not for me”. Another reason that knowing our weaknesses is so powerful, is because it allows us to understand what areas we need to ask for help, who are the best people who can support us, and compliment our skill set.
