We recently connected with Mia Thornton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It came to me about 17 years ago. I was a single mother in college studying engineering. My son was born and it changed my life for the better. He and his little sister are my purpose I can’t see it any other way!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a licensed realtor serving the great city of New Orleans and its surrounding areas. My focus has been to help lower income families become home owners. I particularly am fond of helping persons with disabilities realize their disability isn’t factor is most instances. I enjoy hearing the excitement and relief I’m able to help provide.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Though no one needs a college degree to be a realtor. My degree in Finance and classes in my undergrad on real estate investing have all been impactful. I understand things from the financial aspect which helps me address basic concerns from the consumers perspective
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Great Koran translated by my dear friend Baba Shuaib Abdullahi, whom spent 6 years translating it.
17:36 – Tells us that we should not pursue things we have no knowledge in.
It is a shame that I didn’t realize this though I professed once to having knowledge. It is through continuous reading and study, I began to ponder and understand the concept of the Quran and it’s message. And all I needed was the Book alone for guidance.
