We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Unzueta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
As a mom of two the days can be exhausting, I try to hear my own voice that says that after my own practice I’m gonna feel amazing, proud of my self and no matter how long is our practice that minutes makes the difference in our mental and physical health. I try to remember my self all the times that was hard to start but that ended with that magic feeling.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi! My name is Michelle Unzueta and I’m a Certified Pilates Instructor, I had an accident when I was 7 that sadly end on an cervical injury but that never stopped me to practice every single sport in my life! movement is my passion since forever but when I first try Pilates I fall in love and I found the cure and prevention of any discomfort in my neck and got the best shape of my life! so when I moved to Miami on 2014 I was immediately start my courses, now after more than 10 years of experience I’m proud to say that I’ve been teaching on part the best studios in Miami creating a community or what I call my Pilates family. With all changes on this past years my clients also got their own Pilates Reformer that give me the opportunity to teach online classes for busy clients in the confort of their home.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As I start practicing Pilates because an injury and I took workshops and focus on people with different injuries or special requirements like knee or hip replacements, spine or pre and post pregnancy mix with my passion of the athletic movement I create my own style that focus on a Pilates class that you feel the work, see results and at the same time you recover of some injury a class for all, my goal it’s always to show that Pilates can return you to life a life with no pain.
How would you describe your ideal client?
An ideal client for me it’s the one that came from an injury, a new mom, a super athletic and competitive athlete, people that never ever practiced any sports and 100% all can fit on one class and discovers that the Pilates Method it’s for all and fall in love with the benefits, the Certification gave us the tools to modify every exercise for all. But if you are new to Pilates ideal have a private class to explain your Instructor your goals and have a tour of the equipment.
