Meet Midegbeyan Ojisua

We were lucky to catch up with Midegbeyan Ojisua recently and have shared our conversation below.

Midegbeyan, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As an Artist, I keep my creativity alive by having people of like minds (artist) around and also by reading about past and present Artist which helps me develop myself mentally and also practically, artist such as Leonardo da vinci, Mr Ejoh wallace, Mr kent Onah and many others. At the early stage of my career, being able to create pieces of grey value was a challenge since reading was not enough I had to meet friends in other states with more experience who guided me through some necessary steps and laid down practices to follow.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Midegbeyan Ojisua is an Artist who is best known for his figurative paintings using exaggerated and sombre application of colors. He’s a painter with formal training with degree in painting, Nigeria, who now practice Art as a full time studio Artist in Lagos, Nigeria. His works tend to explore colors, grey colors in reflection to the Renaissance which celebrates the intricacies of sketchies from their faces and gestures
One of the most exciting thing about his paintings is that the viewers tend to enjoy the beauty of various varieties of grey colors
He has participated in the Lafourchette De Roze residency, Bassam, Cote d ivoire, a duo exhibition “A SHARED GAZE” in Lagos, Nigeria and also AKAA Art fair, Paris, France.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey so far, the three qualities that helped me grow are PATIENCE, ENDURANCE and CONSISTENCY. My advise to those who are at the start of their journey would be to keep up the good work, keep practicing, be around creatives and also read books that are creatively in line with what they want to achieve

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My Mother, Mr kent and Mr Eugene has been helpful to me, in their words of advice and also exposure to things that makes me a better artist.
