We were lucky to catch up with Mike Mason recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
As a family owned and operated business, we give credit to our parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, and everyone who comprised our village for teaching us the importance of working hard for what we have and taking pride in who we are. Today, TennesSki Adventures is ran by me, my wife, and my oldest daughter. We encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and push each other everyday to give our heart and souls to this business. And, of course, we have a lot of fun doing it!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Our story starts 23 years ago when we moved to Tennessee for the first time and fell in love with the mountains, valleys, and lakes that make up our beautiful backyard. As a family, we have spent countless days tubing in Norris Lake, hiking through the Great Smoky Mountains, and trail riding in ATVs and Jeeps through the woods. Our goal has always been to love our work and share the beauty of the little slice of heaven we call East Tennessee with anyone who is willing to come visit. This goal came to fruition when I noticed the disconnect between booking a rental watercraft and the ability of the renter to retrieve their rental in an easy, timely manner. This is where TennesSki Adventures was born. Today, we enjoy our “office” views on the lake by delivering top-of-the-line jet skis to our renters and retrieving them when the rental is complete all for free. We look forward to another season of meeting the friendly visitors of Norris Lake and fulfilling jet ski deliveries!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In our industry, we often are interacting with people who are spending their family vacation at Norris Lake. Due to this, we focus on customer service, staying up-to-date on local happenings to recommend, and listening to the feedback our renters give us for ways we could have improved their experience or the jet skis themselves. We stay updated on new merchandise that we can provide to improve the experience of our renters as well as events happening around the lake so we can have recommendations available for our renters to add to the experience they have during their short stay on Norris Lake. We also encourage all of our renters to reach out to us with any questions they have about the area while they are here as we know the area like the back of our hand after all these years. We pride ourselves in providing a friendly, welcoming experience through our services and conversations to match the relaxed vibe that their vacation should have. After all, their vacation is too short to waste time retrieving their rentals. That’s why we deliver for free!
