We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mikeal Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikeal, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Having confidence and self esteem comes from accepting who you are, truly loving yourself, and having a great foundation. My family has always been extremely supportive with any decision that I made and understood early on that I was a unique character. We all go through the phase where we question ourselves or care what others think, so my mother always told me, “If you like IT then nothing else matters” and that really stuck with me. My confidence also comes from having the freedom of doing what I wanted to do and being successful in any decision I made. Whether it be fashion, entertainment, self image, or hair style, it was so energizing to be unapologetically me. I also learned, when you believe in yourself and you show that you are confident, it attracts a different energy.

I am the founder of M’Jayelle LLC, a self care beauty line that focuses on nourishing your skin and supports with learning how to self love and build self confidence. M’Jayelle offers product that makes your skin have a natural glow, feel soft, with a light trail of fragrance. My product is handcrafted using all natural ingredients with the goal of introducing clients to natural remedies to nourish your body, and teach your skin how to love organic oils and exude its natural glow.
Creating M’Jayelle was a new journey I randomly fell upon. As you get older, you realize the importance of taking care your skin. Yes having good skin can be genetics, but it also comes from good skin hygiene routines. When you’re young, you don’t realize the power and benefits of natural oils and butters. We are usually introduced to the main names like, Shea Butter or Argan Oil, but there is so much more available to us. In all transparency, it wasn’t until embarking on this self care journey that I found so many resources the earth provides us to be healthy, and to take care of our skin in the most natural way.
The most exciting part of this journey is, learning about the assortment of oils and butters out there to create a product for people to enjoy. I will say, it is a feeling of wholesomeness to see the reactions of people when they try my creations. The other exciting part about creating M’Jayelle is assisting people with their self care journey and educating them on the importance of self love. When you feel good and feel confident, you exude that energy through your presence.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Although I am still in the beginning of my journey and learning gems along the way, one quality I would share is to never stop learning about your craft and your business. Things are always changing so you have to always be ready to pivot and elevate. Do as much research and educate yourself to be able to speak to your product. Another quality is the ability to accept and be patience. Understand your journey looks different than others and embrace the path you are on. I have friends who’s businesses are excelling and opportunities are being presented to them. Please understand, just because you haven’t received those same opportunities, doesn’t mean your time isn’t coming… just be patient.
One skill I believe that was impactful on my journey, is the ability to create. To have a thought, do the research, and try it out is so much fun for me. Another skill that has been helpful to me is being able to use programs like Photoshop and Canvas to help elevate my photography or having the basic knowledge of photography to take nice photos to represent my brand. Another skill ( and this is a big one) is the ability to be able to communicate to your audience. I believe the art of transparency and verbiage is critical in any business. You always want to make sure your message is clear to your followers. One of the biggest skills on my journey that is a continuous practice is being fearless. Being fearful is the biggest obstacle anyone can face and being fearless allows for the opportunities to pour in. SO BE FEARLESS!
Honestly, I had no idea what I was getting myself into (chuckles). I just knew I wanted to do something impactful, fun, and creative… and what better way to do that than to share a part of myself through my own self care line. I always found myself offering advice to empower people in their life. I figured, why not do the same thing through actual product and empower people to embark on a self love journey.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
This is a great question. I have an amazing support system that encourages me to keep going as well as offer different perspectives which is always essential for a business owner. I wouldn’t say there has been one specific person, but I do want to recognize my husband. My husband is business savvy and knows the most random information. He offers great financial advice as well as great ideas and perspectives to think about when it comes to growing my business. Funny thing is, I used to get so frustrated with him when I would ask him a question, and he would answer “Look it up”. What I finally understood was, he was prepping me to do the work and understand what and why I was doing it. Due to this, I have been a researching guru and always researching to learn more. He is also the first person I ask to test my products because outside of myself and my mother, he is my biggest critic and if a MAN likes the product, it’s pretty much a win in my eyes (chuckles). He has assisted me in having a more business mentality through recommending books and videos to watch to gain more knowledge. With all that said, continue to boost your knowledge and educate yourself…its worth it.
