Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miriam Zylberglait, MD. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miriam, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism is the result of genetics (my dad is the eternal optimism ), the inspiration that I get from those around me overcoming challenges and growing after adversity, the support that I receive from friends and family and important, the love of my sons.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a triple Board Certified Physician in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Obesity Medicine with more than 20 years of clinical and academic experience.
I am the founder CEO of Virtual Wellbeing MD, a concierge clinic focused on providing comprehensive, holistic, and personalized direct care to patients, using advanced technology and evidence-based medicine, to prevent and/or treat medical and emotional conditions that could affect their current and/or future quality of life and well-being.
In addition to my clinical practice, have a special interest in the areas of well-being, burnout, mental health, and leadership development.
I completed a fellowship in Leadership Education and Development (AAMC), certification as Chief Wellbeing Officer that allow as me not only to focus on the clinic aspect of medicine, but also on education, leadership and advocacy.
My efforts in these areas has been recognized with multiple awards including Mentor of the Year (AMWA 2021) and American College of Physicians Young Achiever (2017).
In addition to my love for medicine, I am also the author of the #1 Best Seller Book “The 3G Cycle of Life: The Secrets for Achieving Joy, Meaning and Well-being” (NDP, Feb 2023) which was awarded by local and nation institutions.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Moral Resilience
Post traumatic growth
One of the most powerful skills that we have as individuals is our ability of understand who we are, our strengths and opportunities, and our role in relationship with those that surround us. That is the power of EQ and its components self-awareness, social awareness, self-control, and social management. And of course in order to achieve all these, we need the fifth component Empathy, so we can perceive the world and ourselves with kindness.
Moral resilience is another fundamental skill that allows us to make decisions based on our values, and what we consider appropriate instead of what is more convenient, or easier for us.
Last but not least, growth, is the ability to see challenges as opportunities and use difficult experiences to learn and develop new skills.
I believe that the combination of all these skills is one of the secrets for sustainable success.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
For many good reasons, the book that changed my life, is the book that I wrote. The 3G, became more than a book for me, but also an introspective journey that allowed me to learn more about myself each page at a time. The beauty of this experience goes beyond the fact that I needed to connect with the most vulnerable aspects of my life and share them with others. What makes this even more special is that for each chapter of the book and my life, I interviewed amazing and well-rounded individuals who shared their own experiences, their knowledge, and their wisdom with me and the readers.
In some way, this was a year of coaching with 30 different experts. What can be better than that?
