Meet Mishila Ashlyn

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mishila Ashlyn . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mishila , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I don’t believe I have overcome imposter syndrome. I’m not sure that I ever will. Some days are better than others. I will feel super confident about my skills and then you see someone else’s work who is better. There will always be someone better however, it’s part of what inspires me to keep going. I’ll Just keep creating until I don’t feel it any longer.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a portrait and event photographer. I started when my daughter was born mostly to preserve memories. That eventually turned into shooting for friends and family. Through word of mouth and networking I eventually worked my way up to shooting events. My favorite is concerts or weddings. Music has always been a big part of my life and well who doesn’t love love? I love capturing all the reactions people have whether it’s too music or seeing two people you care about commit themselves to one another. I pay attention to the details to capture the moments I believe my clients would want to see for the rest of their lives. You can often catch me teary eyed at a wedding.

I am currently building my skills for studio photography. My plan is one day to own a studio and do more fashions shoots.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe no matter the path you choose effective communication, critical thinking/problem solving and, time management are skills that will most impact your journey. My advice for new photographers is to just keep shooting! Keep practicing and stay open to learning new skills. No matter the level you’re at there is always something to learn.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to work with another photographer on a styled photoshoot or collaborate with a model. I’m hoping one day my photography takes me out of state or even out of the country!
