Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Missy Adiego. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Missy, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
As a wife, mother, and business owner, I have a deep appreciation for interior design and a strong desire to help people maximize the potential of their homes. Through my journey, I’ve discovered that true happiness lies in pursuing your passions, embracing challenges, and facing your fears. By combining all these elements, we can experience personal growth and fulfillment. I firmly believe that as women, we possess multiple purposes that contribute to our unique value and identity.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The Upstated Home is entering its second year of operation, catering to a diverse range of clients. Engaging the services of a professional designer should not be daunting. My aim is to assist clients in developing a deep affection for their homes, irrespective of their budget. Creating authentic designs that reflect each individual’s personality, whether it involves renovating an existing space or starting from scratch. My ultimate objective is to design and execute classic, functional and comfortable environments for living and entertaining.
This year we have launched a virtual service where clients have access to the one on one services.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Embrace challenges, continuously educate yourself and learn from your experiences. Each job, whether it’s in the field of interior design or the management role dealing with clients or contractors. Each project you will encounter different challenges, learn to adapt and solve. Educate yourself with each project. Ask questions. A lot of them. I think the biggest bit of advice to someone starting out, is try. Do not let fear hold you back, everyone started at some point. We all start slow, that is ok. Learn to try things and pivot when they do not work. All of the challenges will help you grow personally and in business.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Owning your own business can be difficult, launching, branding, growing, changing. This past year, I’ve experienced significant growth in adaptability, which has been one of the most valuable lessons for me. While projects may seem flawless on paper, the reality is that there are often time constraints, delays from vendors, and issues with contractors. Being able to adapt and adjust when faced with these challenges has been crucial.
