Meet Mitchell Bienvenue

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mitchell Bienvenue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mitchell, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
You know, confidence for me wasn’t something that just happened overnight. As a kid, I was actually quite the opposite – I was pretty scared of failing at anything I did. It’s funny, looking back, I think that fear is what initially pushed me to excel in academics from a young age. I wanted to prove to myself that I could succeed.

But when it came to sports, it was a different story. I found myself playing in a way that was almost paralyzed by the fear of failure. I’d overthink every move on the court or field, and that held me back from reaching my full potential. Instead of playing freely, I was constrained by my own apprehensions.

It took some time, but as I got older, I started to realize the crucial lesson that failure is an inherent part of life. It’s not something to be feared but rather embraced as a stepping stone to growth. I learned to fail forward, so to speak. This shift in perspective was a game-changer for me, and with that realization, my confidence started to flourish.

Now, I approach life with a different mindset. I’m not afraid to take risks, to embrace challenges, and to play freely and confidently. It’s been a journey, but understanding that failure is just a part of the process has made all the difference in how I view myself and navigate through life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Currently, I’m based in Columbus, Ohio, navigating my way through the world of social media content creation. It’s been quite a journey, to be honest. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this deep passion for cameras, photography, and videography. That’s really where my exploration into content creation began.

I’ve transitioned into creating short-form video content that spans across various social media platforms. It’s an exhilarating process where I get to blend my love for visuals with the dynamic world of social media. What I find most exciting and special about it is the ability to connect with people in a creative and engaging way. I’ve always believed in the power of storytelling through visuals, and now, I get to share my perspective with a broader audience.

One of the highlights of my work is collaborating with both national and local brands and businesses. I’ve had the privilege of creating short-form video content that resonates with audiences, ranging from well-known companies to local businesses right here in Ohio. It’s fulfilling to contribute to their stories and help bring their brands to life through my lens.

In terms of what’s new, it’s been a thrilling ride. The more I immerse myself in this field, the more opportunities seem to come my way. I find it incredibly motivating and hopeful that I can turn my passion for content creation into a full-fledged career. It’s a constantly evolving journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say there are three crucial elements that played a significant role in my journey. First and foremost, passion has been an absolute game-changer. Having a genuine love for what you do fuels the fire within you. It’s the driving force that keeps you going, especially during challenging times. So, my advice to anyone starting out is to find that thing you’re truly passionate about because it makes the journey much more rewarding.

Consistency is another key factor. You have to be willing to put in the work day in and day out. It’s not about sprinting; it’s about the marathon. Consistency builds momentum. Over time, your efforts become more productive and efficient, and your progress accelerates. It’s like laying down bricks every day – eventually, you’ll have built something substantial.

The third aspect is risk-taking. You have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, try new things, and see what lands. Taking calculated risks is often where the most significant growth happens. It might be intimidating at first, but that’s where innovation and progress come from.

So, my advice to those embarking on their journey is to be consistent. Consistency is key. It’s about showing up, putting in the effort, and building on that day after day. Passion, consistency, and a willingness to take risks – these qualities, in my experience, have been the pillars of a fulfilling journey.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed is something we all face, and I’ve found that taking a step away is a game-changer for me. Whether it’s for an hour, a day, or even a whole weekend, giving myself a break is essential. It’s like hitting the reset button.

Taking that time away allows me to distance myself from the chaos, clear my mind, and recharge. It’s surprising how much a brief break can do to refresh your perspective. I find that when I come back, those creative juices start flowing again, and I can approach challenges with a clearer mindset.

I think we often underestimate the power of stepping back and taking a breath. It’s not about avoidance; it’s about creating space to gain a new perspective. So, my advice to anyone feeling overwhelmed is to give yourself the permission to take a break. It might seem counterintuitive, but sometimes, it’s exactly what you need to come back stronger and more focused.
