Meet Mondrekio “Drake” Robertson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mondrekio “Drake” Robertson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mondrekio “Drake” , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
This is a great question because I’m not sure if ever did overcome it. I believe that I work very hard to not let imposter syndrome keep me from achieving my goals, but there are definitely times when it strikes. For me, the best thing to do is really have a strong support system and also really believe in what you are doing. Some people will gaslight or make you feel like you don’t belong and that gets in your head so we really do think we are not fit for whatever it is we are trying to do. You can’t let those people win at the end of the day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My business is a personal chef company geared towards bringing you a culinary experience you won’t forget at the location of your choice. Right now I am getting ready to go full force with online cooking classes more. I travel a lot because I also work on cruise ships as a culinary instructor (S.A.L.T Host / Silversea Cruises) and I love my only online cooking classes because I can conduct them from anywhere.

I also host a podcast “Cooking Your Way Through Life” and now that I’m completed season 4 I’m ready to drop my first cookbook. I want the first cookbook to be the recipes we discuss on seasons 1-4 then when season 5 comes out I want to go in a slightly different direction with some of my recipes. My first cookbook ‘Cooking Your Way Through Life’ is not available on Amazon worldwide. Other than that I hope to travel a lot this year and eat my way around the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me I would say showing up is one of my biggest skill I had to learn. I remember in culinary school my teacher told me that you could be the best but if you don’t show up it will never matter. From that day on I wanted to always show up and give my best because I know that it makes a difference. Another skill is to network, and I don’t mean those fake industry events. Actually reach out and cultivate relationships with people who don’t necessarily do what you do. You’d be surprised how genuine networking can affect your business and how you approach things. The last one I learned from working on ships and that is to not try to keep up a facade. Be true to who you are and you will sleep better at night no matter if you fail or succeed because it was genuine.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I love to collaborate I think it’s the best way to grow sometimes as well. I am looking for some chefs and even some content creators to collaborate with all the time. I collaborate the same way I network, organically. My whole online presence is food & travel, so I’m always looking for collaborators in that space. Now I’m open to hearing other ideas for collaboration because you never know when something will just click. You can always reach out to me on Instagram at chefhollywood88, I’m the most active on there.
