Meet Monika Norman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Monika Norman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Monika, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Starting out in the Hair Industry….is daunting at best. In beauty school, they make everyone feel like their going to be a “Rock-Star” from the moment you graduate. Sadly, not true. When you graduate it is the beginning and what you put in, you will get out. Every day should be part of your plan to success. Every day should build on your confidence and self-esteem. In our industry as most, it takes years of training and motivation to be not just good…but a Rock-Star.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Not knowing when this will be going to press…it is holiday time. I would like to focus on an attitude of gratitude. Having been in this industry for more than 50 years, I have seen, done and shared a lot. This time of year is very busy, tiring, stressful and the most joyful time of year. This year marked our 15th year in business, We have been selected Best Day Spa in McKinney TX for the 6th time. Our Oncology program is still moving along with more recognition than ever before. Working on and for our Oncology clients has been an honor and we have had many more joyful resolutions than not. This work keeps me grounded and humble in many ways. It has become a great part of our heart and our story. Our staff is amazing, and the reason we are relevant.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience…Patience…Patience. Through thick and thin. Learning any craft takes lots of time and patience. There is more than just the skill set. You need to lean the psychology of the world and people, but having to know yourself first and foremost. Your strengths and weakness…what part of them do you want to keep as your core self…what you desire to be or not be. Having like minded friends and teachers to help you move toward your goal. I personally do not read anything that will not teach me something. I have tried to cultivate great educators as friends and to listen more than I speak. Focus is the name of the game if you want to set your self apart in your field of choice. People change their goals all the time in the beginning, but when you make your selection, stick with it….knowing there will be pain before joy

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I would say our field in particular is always facing the challenge of growing our client base. The spa business is a selective service. Our clients are our best advertisement. We strive to give each and every client an “experience” and that can not be relayed in an glossy magazine or on a card. We offer a time away from it all, in a quiet nurturing environment just for you. Clients are excited to share the experience as well as the service they have had with us. Being the gate keeper of all things spa…our attention to detail is critical. There are great spa’s everywhere so we keep our standards and experience level very high to keep our best foot forward
