We recently connected with Monique K. Rose and have shared our conversation below.
Monique, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from experiencing hardship, engaging in higher education, and networking with honorable people that influence me to develop the habits of a hard worker. I am motivated by my family and community to nurture the habit of organizing a daily agenda, committing to deadlines, taking the initiative where needed, and finding purpose in things I commit to daily. Essentially the core of my work ethic stems from the need to fulfill the purpose I was born to achieve. All achievements require one to build discipline. As a young mother, carrying and delivering my son at 22 years old, I wasn’t given a choice to slack off or have freedom of distractions as I prepared for everything that motherhood required as a noble woman. My son, KJ, became my greatest motivation to keep working towards my goals because his life is impacted directly from the things I do with my life. I must admit, like many of us, I was juggling quite a lot at the start of my 20s. I was enrolled in a 2 year masters degree program at Herbert H. Lehman College, engulfed in classroom instruction at the NYC Department of Education, and faced the challenges of motherhood, all while maintaining healthy and happy relationships with the people I care about. My ability to multi-task and grow versatile in my endeavors stemmed from the desires I had as a teenager. For example, I remember at fifteen years old, I wanted to drive a car. I just couldn’t stand the idea of waiting for my parents or friends to take me somewhere I needed to go. I also was tired of taking the school bus to my high school, though it was popular in my suburban neighborhood. So I was motivated to work two jobs while in high school. When I turned 16 years old, I started working in Panera Bread after school and Forever 21 on the weekends. I was also in a church community that opened doors to volunteer opportunities that taught me the importance of being presently active in my community. I actually loved being busy because I noticed that the teenage girls who were not busy were caught up with boys, conflicts, and were victims of low self esteem cycles. I eagerly focused on the goal of saving money for a car. With the help of my parents, I purchased a red 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, valued at about $4,000 USD at 17 years old. Since I was maintaining my grades on the honor roll and taking AP classes towards college credit as a senior in high school, they agreed to include me on their auto insurance policy, because they deemed me responsible. The hardship of working from sunup to sundown and paying bills as a teenager, taught me that resilience will get you the results you desire. As a Christian, I am a firm believer in dreams and visions that serve as guides for our life’s purpose. I hold steadfast onto faith in Phil 4:13 – “ You can do all things through Christ that strengthens you.” It’s obedience in Christ that makes me persevere in any process required. I can honestly say, at this point, that God is the foundation of my work ethic and everything that comes from working really comes from my faith in God.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I started my career as a Secondary Education Teacher in NYC. During this season, I experienced health concerns that plummeted me into depression. I grew eager to restore my body and take control of my health. I was driven by the need to perform better in my career and to balance motherhood in a healthy way. God empowered me with the vision to break the chain of lifestyle diseases that affect 90% of the members in my family. Using research skills gained from Albany State University (SUNY), where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications/Rhetoric, I devoted leisure time to deep diving in research that taught me more about body mechanics and the aspects of health that affected my community. The information I learned compelled me to write five lifestyle changes that promote weight loss, which helped me to combat the health concerns I was facing. After relentlessly engaging in the new habits for five weeks, I was shocked by the changes in my skin, the disappearance of cysts, discontinuance of fibroids, and the decrease in visceral fat. After I lost over 50 pounds < insert link> http://www.dailymail.co.
I was excited to learn that dozens of people who tried the program shared how much it also changed their physique or improved their mental health. I grew encouraged by testimonies from members of the community to reach people globally. I established MOFIT Health Club, an educational fitness platform < insert link> https://www.
The mission to break the chain of lifestyle disease one individual and family at a time, led to the family wellness workshops we offer at local churches and schools <insert link> https://youtu.be/
We aim to establish a facility that includes rehabilitation and wellness programs to families who truly need remedies outside of medicine. It’s important for people to actively grow healthier and happier in their day to day lives. Why would we succumb to self-destructive habits on autopilot and deteriorate the body through gluttony, addictions, and lack of exercise when we know better or have the resources to do better? Our body is a temple yet at times we treat material things better than we treat ourselves. I firmly believe education and easily accessible resources pave the way for people to live better lives.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
It’s imperative to develop time management skills, remain intrinsically motivated, and improve personal development overall through applying knowledge from books or educational sources. So many people want to be the chief but so little want to make the sacrifices, the changes or do the work required. Many people want to seek shortcuts and fast results. That is unrealistic and unfair to the people that established a strong foundation from taking the stairs to success instead of the elevator to achieve their goals. My advice to folk who are early in their journey is to not take the easy route but to grow through the process after you learn what it takes to get to the finish line.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always happy to collaborate because I understand the power of connections with purpose. It would be great to partner with tech companies, fitness brands, and local non-profits. These business to business connections will further establish the educational resources that we create in the wellness sector to help more people live holistically healthier and happier lives.
