We recently connected with Monique Mosee-King and have shared our conversation below.
Monique, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My survivor spirit and practice of focusing on good energy are what keeps me optimistic. I have many processes for staying positive and I teach others ultimate optimism. Being a working artist you must stay positive, because art is subjective and everyone has their own perception of what makes good art. So understanding that the souls you are meant to reach, you will.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hey guys, I am an actress, singer, Voice Over actress and acting coach. I believe going after one’s dream in life is true greatness. Win or lose. In my case I’m winning. I love performing and telling people a story with my art.I believe it’s one of the most important forms of art. Without TV and Movies so many wonderful, imaginative and profound stories would never be told. I get to be a part of that. I started my journey as a singer from Philadelphia, singing Jazz and R&B in any and every venue in Philly from, jazz clubs, casino’s, beach resorts and country clubs. My acting career started later after marriage and two children I decided to dive back into art with acting and voice over. I got myself signed to an agency in Philly and immediately had success as a commercial and commercial voice-over actress. After a few years my family and I moved to California in pursuit of TV and Film auditions. After a year or two in California I booked several co-star and guest star roles on major prime time Tv shows such as NCIS, All Rise, American Crime story and Love Victor. I also have national commercials running regularly as well as the voice of a major medical company. I also Guest Star in a Mar -Vista film now airing on Tubi titled Safe Word.
As an acting coach I provide mentorships to all aspiring and experienced actors trying to navigate their way into the entertainment world. With my path and my story as well as many others Im able to help launch many acting career’s by training them in all aspects of becoming a working entertainer. Providing audition technique, master character and script analyzation as well as learning the business side of the Biz. I love all of what I do, acting, singing and coaching.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being trained in singing, acting and dance was paramount to becoming a great entertainer. I had private coaches as well as training from various acting groups over the years. I continue to search for master classes to learn from. Being able to perform in a variety of areas in the arts are my skills. Being trained at life also prepare you for a great career in acting. My best advice for all people aspiring to be in entertainment is to train. No matter how naturally gifted you are, the details of your craft require expertise. Those who have done what your aspiring to do, are the best to help guide you along on your journey.. I am a natural artist to my core, but I became a better artist when I trained in my craft.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
All entertainers feel overwhelmed at one time or another. Worrying about our performances, the next audition, why we didn’t book this or that one. Thinking when is MY big break coming etc. When I decided to enjoy the journey, all my dreams began to work out. Noticing our accomplishments as we move forward on the journey is the hardest thing, but most essential thing to remember when we start to feel overwhelmed. I focus on how far I’ve come and where I’m going.
