Meet Montse Soto

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Montse Soto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Montse, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Since I was a little kid my mom taught me to be brave and to love myself so much.To have self-esteem nowadays is tough, because it’s very easy to compare yourself to others on social media. But what I’ve learned in recent years is that everyone has their own path, and what matters is being authentic.Self-love is the most important thing for me because it has kept me afloat when my heart has been broken. As an actress, it’s difficult to stay strong in the face of rejections and the demands of the industry, but confidence is everything. When I was starting out in acting, I took rejection in castings too seriously until I understood that I had to trust that I gave my best and that whether I got the part or not was something I couldn’t control.Therapy is fundamental in your process of self-discovery and self-love. I listen to many podcasts about self-love and empowerment. I can also recommend some books that have helped me not only with self-love but also with finding my purpose in life: “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle Melton, “Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life” by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, and “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Joe Dispenza.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am an actress and have participated in theater plays, movies, series, and commercials in Mexico and the States. I knew that cinema was one of my passions since I was six years old. I love telling stories and connecting with people through the screen. I am also a singer; I started writing songs after a heartbreak. My goals for the next few years are to produce a movie, release my first album, and win an Oscar, which has been my biggest goal since I was a child.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advice is always to work towards your dreams, never give up, and have clear goals. I have always believed that there is nothing you can’t achieve when you work for it, but the key is to persist. My advice would be that no matter what your dream or goal is, dedicate all your effort to becoming better every day, never compare yourself to others, and above all, have your dream so ingrained in you that when you think about giving up, you remember why you started.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents have been everything to me; they have believed in me since the first day I told them about my life plan, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all their support. Especially my uncle, who will always be my driving force to achieve my dreams. I made him a promise, and even though he’s no longer here, he will always inspire me to fight for my dreams. My friends always motivate me to keep going. When I’m about to give up, they encourage me not to and to work towards each of my goals.
