Meet Morgan Thomas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Morgan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I consider myself a very lucky person, because I found my sense of purpose in music at an early age. The story-telling and emotional expression in music held meaning for me in a way that nothing else did. As I got older, sharing my love of music with others became an important part of my life and that continues to this day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a performing musician, guitar teacher, and artist. I run a small music academy in Mtn Green, UT called “Mountain Music Academy”. I love teaching music and being able to connect with younger generations through guitar playing.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think consistent practice, persistence, and patience were three things that got me to where I am today. In the end, my desire to become a better musician every single day is what has lead to my success. Without that desire, I don’t think I would have the drive to work on all the day-to-day tasks involved in promotion, booking, scheduling, and running a music school. My advice is to try and work on your skills as a musician every day, and let that be your motivation behind everything else you do.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I am one of those people who really struggles with asking for help. But when I feel overwhelmed that is always what helps lighten my load. I have had to practice asking people for help over the years, but I’ve learned that people are generally very willing to help you in your journey as long as you ask for it.
