We were lucky to catch up with Morgan Trammell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Once I had my camera in hand, I knew the possibilities were endless! Photography allows me the amazing opportunity to love others beyond the lens. My working career started in retail and then moved to the medical industry. I always had this nagging feeling that I had a greater purpose and would have a further reach outside the corporate world. Not long after my husband bought me my first camera, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. As a seeker of meaningful connections, it was only a matter of time before the stars aligned for me to pursue my dream career path. As someone who has always found beauty in the most ordinary of places, I have a unique eye for capturing the kind of moments you didn’t know your heart needed. I wholeheartedly am humbled by this remarkable job every day. I create lasting relationships with my clients and many become repeat clients or as I prefer to say, ‘lifelong friends’ because that’s honestly the truth. This career gives me purpose like no other. This year, I am also featuring a new local small business each month to show them support and love as well. My clients love getting to know me better by the places I love going and the other businesses are highlighted at the same time. This has been a fun and wonderful way to love on other small businesses in our community. For me, this side of photography is where love is abundant, giving is second nature, and community is everything. Photography fills my heart with happiness, allows me to create meaningful beautiful art, and to love on others that I create lasting relationships with along the way. This career is a never-ending adventure that I am so blessed to share with others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My grandmother always told me photography was my true calling all along. I was always the one taking pictures everywhere we went! Morgan Trammell Photography was born out of pure passion for connecting with others, finding beauty in the most ordinary of places, and reminding others of the profound importance of photographs. I strongly believe that my love for others and creativity brought me here today. When I am not behind the camera I am most likely snuggling my animals cozied up on the couch at home. If I’m not doing that, you would probably find me in the kitchen. My husband and I love to cook. He’s my best friend and we have so much fun cooking together. My favorite time in the kitchen is spent baking cookies or cooking to host friends and family. We also love spending time on the lake in the summer and traveling whenever we can. I was born and raised in East Tennessee and I am a southern girl at heart. I believe every hello should come with a hug, your home should be filled with cozy blankets and warm cookies, and life is too short not to do what you love. I hope all my clients see my heart when working with me and always feel welcome and at home. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I truly believe we never stop learning and there will always be something to learn. We grow wiser with time and this rings true in the photography industry. I constantly look back on the start of my journey to humble myself. Having a reminder of how far I have come is a gift. Not recognizing your improvements over time is easy to do. When I look back on the first images I took or the first drafts of material I wrote out for my brand it is very humbling. My top three qualities I find to be most valuable for growth are education, building a supportive community of photographer friends, and doing everything with intention without holding yourself back. I continue to learn new things everyday about my editing program and photography skills in general. Invest in workshops and use the tools you already have at no cost. Soak up all the info you can from reliable sources on Youtube or Google even. There is so much information available to learn from. When the time is right for your business financially, invest in workshops or educational material from photographers you look up to. You won’t regret it! You will get lonely and doubt your ability quickly without a support system. Putting yourself out there can seem very scary, but trust me, more fellow photographers are in the same boat feeling the same way as you and wanting friendships just as bad. Go to networking events, content days, and other community meetups. A friendly chat with photographer friends on social media is another easy way to make friendships. Every single photographer I’ve become friends with has been because I put myself out there. If you think you can do this on your own, it’s going to quickly become overwhelming. Make friends! I also struggled in the beginning with believing every decision I made to try something new, buy something new, or create something new had to have a timeline or be in the budget. The problem was that this held me back for no reason. Just do it! Do it scared, do it alone, but just do it. Don’t let fear keep you from starting or doing. You’ll never get there if you don’t start.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I love this question because for me photography is a creative and artful way to capture memories that are passed on for generations. Photographs are love letters and invaluable keepsakes that perfectly capture our lives and our time. The greatest legacy we can leave for the next generation are our stories told through the love of photographs. My clients aren’t here to be perfect and to stand facing the camera hoping to get the best possible photo. My inspiration comes from finding beauty in imperfect moments and the moments in between that make your heart skip a beat. My clients are bold, passionate, and storytellers that crave loveswept moments. They’re fun loving, not afraid to get a little messy, a little silly, and go with the flow when the time calls for it. They appreciate the attention to detail I provide and how much heart I put into their entire client experience. My style is romantic, focused on genuine connections, raw emotions, and intentional direction. My clients find comfort in knowing that they can show up ready to be in the moment and their love will undoubtedly show in every image. They know working with me is not simply a transaction but rather the beginning of a lovely friendship. I capture love from all walks of life and focus on capturing the wild, the wonderful, and the irreplaceable memories that tell their stories.
