Meet MzSassy theAuthor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MsSassy TheAuthor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

MsSassy, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
Writers Block can be so frustrating but I’ve discovered is that it’s normally a sign that I need to rest and take a break or steer my thoughts and focus to another project/book.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I never thought I’d become an author. It wasn’t that I felt I couldn’t do it, I just didn’t see it as a goal or plan in my future.

I’m good with numbers. I have a degree in accounting and before I started writing I thought my path would lead me toward having my own accounting firm.

Discovering my love for writing and then ultimately becoming an author is the result of me falling in love with reading again. I have always been an avid reader. I got a away from it for a few year with getting married and having kids. It was nearly a seven year gap before I picked up a book again. But once I did the words more than flew off the page. My own ideas and creativity began to come alive.

Here I am now 11 books down and definitely more to come. I plan to release 4 books in 2024, and offer mentoring to other aspiring authors and writers.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful skills in my journey have been, consistency, passion and dedication. You will need all three to succeed.

My biggest advice to new writers and authors is to be patient and give yourself grace in the journey. The best way to improve your skills is to use them. Keep writing, Keep reading. Keep making adjustments where needed.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I have a great community, filled with family, friends and more. Each person has helped me in some capacity. From brainstorming to proofreading. From cover design to social media content. The surprising thing is that not all of them are readers, but I’m not afraid to ask for help or opinions or advice.
